Product Overview

The RP-PCT16MD is the resolution flagship among panoramic cameras: two 4K sensors stitched together to deliver 7680×2160 (16MP), a 180° field of view, and 25fps, with support for Motion Track (motion tracking markers). Its body shares the same dimensions and weight as the 8MP version: 132×131×72mm/775g.

All specifications on this page have been extracted field by field from the specification table on Reolink’s official product page: 1/2.8" sensors, 2.8mm F1.6, H 180°/V 53.8° field of view, 30-meter IR (6 × 3W 850nm), full-color night vision with 6 × 3.5W 4000K 400-lumen lights, PoE 802.3af, DC 12V 2A (<12W), microSD up to 512GB, IP67, -30°C~+55°C.

What 16MP really means: 7680 pixels spread across 180° horizontally equals approximately 43 pixels per degree, which is higher than a single-lens 4K camera at approximately 36 pixels per degree. In other words, this is one of the few models that can “capture a full panorama while retaining clear details” — at the cost of higher bitrate (main stream up to 12288Kbps) and storage requirements.

16MP Panoramic: Balancing Coverage and Detail

Pixels per degree are key to determining whether a panoramic camera is “good enough.” 7680 pixels/180° ≈ 43 pixels/degree; single-lens 4K 3840/105° ≈ 36 pixels/degree; 8MP panoramic 5120/180° ≈ 28 pixels/degree.

This means the RP-PCT16MD can cover 180° while retaining better distant detail than a single-lens 4K camera. If your scenario requires both an overview of the entire area (such as a full row of parking spaces) and the ability to identify individual people or license plates, a 16MP panoramic camera is currently the most effective single-camera solution.

  • Approximately 43 pixels per degree, higher than single-lens 4K
  • Retains detail across the panoramic view
  • The best single-camera solution for a full row of parking spaces

What Is Motion Track?

The official specifications list Motion Track: the system marks the positions and paths of moving targets in the frame, allowing you to quickly locate “where that person walked from and to” during playback. This is not PTZ tracking (the camera has no motor); it displays markers and paths within the image.

This is especially useful for panoramic footage: a 180° view contains a lot of information at once, making it easy for the human eye to miss something. With path markers, you can jump directly to the periods when the target passed through during playback.

  • Marks movement paths within the image
  • Not PTZ tracking (no motor)
  • Significantly improves panoramic playback efficiency

Bitrate and Storage: The Real Cost of 16MP

Main stream 3072-12288Kbps (default 10240Kbps), sub-stream 256-2048Kbps. Based on continuous recording at the default setting, usage is approximately 105-110GB per day — higher than a 12MP single-lens camera (approximately 95-100GB).

Practical recommendation: This camera almost certainly requires an NVR (8TB or more is more reasonable). If you only use a memory card, even 512GB is sufficient for just four to five days of continuous recording; switching to event recording and lowering the bitrate to 4096Kbps may extend this to two to three weeks.

  • Approximately 105-110GB per day for continuous recording
  • An NVR of 8TB or more is recommended
  • If using only a memory card, switch to event recording

Night Vision Configuration and Installation Angle

The 30-meter IR range is provided by 6 × 3W 850nm LEDs (double the 3 LEDs on the 8MP version), while full-color night vision uses 6 × 3.5W 4000K 400-lumen lights. The doubled number of LEDs helps maintain nighttime usability at the 16MP resolution — higher pixel counts are more sensitive to light.

A mounting height of 2.5-3 meters with the camera body kept level is recommended; if installed in a corner, the IR LEDs on both sides may create hotspots on the adjacent walls, so leaving a slight gap from the wall can help.

  • 6 IR LEDs for 16MP nighttime coverage
  • 400lm full-color lighting for nearby coverage
  • Wall-Mounted Installation Reduces Hotspots

AI Detection and Perimeter Protection

Supports motion, person, vehicle, and animal detection, line crossing, area intrusion, area loitering, and AI video search. Pay special attention when configuring the perimeter in panoramic footage: a single "line crossing" rule may span a very large range across 180°, so it is recommended to draw multiple lines in sections for clearer semantics (for example, one for the "driveway entrance" and another for the "pedestrian walkway").

Notification strategy: Panoramic cameras typically generate more triggers than single-lens cameras (due to the wider view and greater number of targets). It is recommended to enable notifications for "person" detection only and use the other detection types for recording only.

  • Segmenting Perimeter Lines Makes Their Meaning Clearer
  • Higher Trigger Volume with Panoramic Cameras
  • Enable Person Notifications Only

Choosing Between the 16MP and 8MP Versions

The body, field of view, power supply, and waterproofing are exactly the same. The differences are resolution (16MP vs 8MP) and the number of infrared LEDs (6 vs 3). There is also a significant difference in price and storage requirements.

How to decide: If you need to "see whether there are people on the premises and where vehicles are going," 8MP is sufficient. If you need to "identify individual people or license plates in the panoramic view," the additional pixels of the 16MP version are necessary.

  • Same Body, Different Resolution
  • Choose 8MP for Movement, 16MP for Detail
  • Significant Difference in Storage Costs

What's in the Box

The following is the packaging content for genuine Hong Kong stock. Actual accessories are subject to the shipment batch received; if you have any questions, please confirm with us before placing an order.

  • Specification source: Reolink official product page specification table (extracted field by field). The official page does not list the package contents; included accessories are subject to the manufacturer's shipment configuration. The 16MP version has a higher bitrate, so an NVR and sufficient hard drive capacity are recommended.
  • Package contents are subject to Reolink's official shipment configuration. The official product page does not publicly list the package contents item by item, and our store does not speculate about the quantity of accessories. If you need to confirm a specific accessory before ordering (bracket, screw pack, or whether a power supply is included), please contact us first.
  • Genuine Hong Kong stock, 2-year manufacturer's warranty, with local support.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the 16MP and 8MP panoramic versions?
The body, field of view, power supply, and waterproof rating are the same; the differences are the resolution(7680×2160 vs 5120×1552)and the number of infrared LEDs(6 vs 3).
Is Motion Track PTZ tracking?
No. This camera has no motor. Motion Track marks moving targets and their trajectories within the frame, making it easier to locate them during playback.
How much storage space is required?
At the default bitrate, continuous recording uses approximately 105-110GB per day. An NVR with 8TB or more is recommended; a 512GB card alone provides approximately four to five days of storage.
Can it recognize license plates?
It depends on the distance. At approximately 43 pixels per degree, it outperforms a single 4K camera, and license plates within 10-15 meters may be recognizable; at greater distances, a zoom camera is still required.
What is the night vision range?
Infrared: 30 meters(6 × 3W 850nm); full color: 6 × 3.5W, 400 lumens.
Does it support PoE?
It supports IEEE 802.3af, with power consumption below 12W; it can also use DC 12V 2A.
Does it have alarm inputs and outputs?
No(officially marked N/A).
Can it connect to an NVR?
Yes, it supports Reolink NVR and FTP.
What is the recommended installation height?
2.5-3 meters, with the camera body level; for corner installation, it is recommended to leave a slight gap from the wall.
Warranty?
Hong Kong official product with a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Should I choose the 16MP or 8MP panoramic version?

Tell us the area to cover and the farthest distance at which identification is needed, and we'll calculate the pixel density to determine whether 8MP is sufficient.
