Product Overview

The Reolink RLA-PS1E is a 5-port full-gigabit PoE switch with 4 PoE ports and 1 uplink port, all supporting 10/100/1000Mbps. It solves situations where an NVR has no PoE ports or not enough PoE ports — for example, the NVS36 / RLN36 only has 4 GbE data ports without power output.

Official specifications: 4 × 10/100/1000Mbps PoE ports and 1 × 10/100/1000Mbps uplink port; AC input 100-240V, power output 52V 1.25A (65W); supports IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at, with a maximum of 30W per port; dimensions 125.5×76.8×25.5mm and weight 234g.

Operating temperature: -10°C to 45°C; humidity: 10%-90% (non-condensing); 2-year manufacturer warranty. This is an **unmanaged** switch: plug and play, with no VLAN, QoS, or web management interface.

4 PoE Ports: Solve the Problem of NVRs Without Power Output

If you use an NVR such as the NVS36 / RLN36 without PoE power output, the cameras need another power source. The RLA-PS1E is designed for exactly this situation: connect 4 cameras to it, then connect the switch to the NVR's GbE port via the uplink.

Another common use case is when all of the NVR's PoE ports are already occupied. For example, the NVS8 has 8 PoE ports, but if you add a 9th or 10th camera, adding an RLA-PS1E gives you 4 additional ports without replacing the NVR.

  • 4 PoE Ports, All Gigabit
  • Suitable for NVRs Without PoE (such as the NVS36)
  • Expand the Number of PoE Ports on an Existing NVR

How to Calculate Whether 65W Total Power Is Enough

The official power output is 52V 1.25A, or 65W, with a maximum of 30W per port. However, 65W is the **total shared power budget for all ports**, not 65W per port.

Practical estimate: Standard Reolink PoE cameras typically consume around 6-10W, while models with PTZ or spotlights consume around 10-14W. Four cameras require approximately 30-55W, so 65W is sufficient. If you plan to connect 4 flagship cameras with PTZ and spotlights and activate them simultaneously, leave some headroom or switch to the 120W 8-port model.

  • 65W Total Power (Shared by All Ports)
  • 30W Maximum per Port
  • 4 Standard PoE Cameras Require Approximately 30-55W

All Gigabit: Why It Is Worth Choosing Over 10/100

All 5 ports on this switch support 10/100/1000Mbps, including the PoE ports. Many inexpensive PoE switches on the market offer only 10/100Mbps on their PoE ports, with only the uplink supporting gigabit speeds — this can become a bottleneck as 4K cameras become more common.

A 4K main stream uses approximately 8Mbps and a sub-stream approximately 1Mbps, far below 100Mbps per camera. However, when multiple cameras are played back simultaneously or the NVR pulls multiple streams at once, the extra capacity of GbE helps prevent video stuttering. This is also why you may prefer this model over entry-level switches.

  • All 5 Ports Are Gigabit
  • Smooth Multi-Channel 4K Playback
  • Unmanaged, Plug and Play

Unmanaged: Advantages and Limitations

The advantage is zero configuration: plug in the power and network cables, and PoE is ready to use. For users who simply want to add a few PoE ports, managed-switch features can be more of a burden than a benefit.

The limitation is that there is no VLAN, QoS, port mirroring, or web management interface. If you need to separate cameras and office computers on the same network using VLANs, or require traffic prioritization, you will need a managed switch — this model cannot do that.

  • No Setup Required, Plug and Play
  • No VLAN / QoS / Management Interface
  • If you need network management functions, please choose another model

2-year warranty

Officially listed with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty. PoE switches are devices that operate 24/7, and the power section is the most common point of failure. The 2-year warranty covers most early-life failures.

It is recommended to place it in a well-ventilated location and not stack it with an NVR or other heat-generating equipment.

  • 2-year manufacturer's warranty
  • Recommended to place it separately and keep it well ventilated

How to calculate the 65W power budget

The total power budget of a PoE switch is a hard limit. This model is rated at 65W, with a maximum of 30W per port—meaning that one port can use 30W, but all ports cannot use 30W simultaneously. When the total power demand of all four ports exceeds 65W, the switch will allocate power by priority or refuse to supply power.

Practical estimate: A typical Reolink PoE camera with infrared LEDs uses approximately 8–12W, so four cameras use about 40–48W, leaving some headroom within the 65W limit. If you plan to connect models with pan-tilt motors or spotlights, such as P-series PTZ cameras, each unit may use close to 20W, bringing four ports close to the limit.

If you plan to connect a fifth camera or more in the future, you should switch to the 8-port, 120W model instead of adding another switch in a daisy chain—daisy chaining makes both the power supply and network topology more complicated.

  • The combined power consumption of the four ports must not exceed 65W
  • Typical PoE cameras use approximately 8–12W
  • PTZ or spotlight-equipped models consume more power

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose between the RLA-PS1E and the RLA-PS1 (120W)?
The key differences are the number of ports and total power budget. The PS1E has 4 PoE ports and 65W, with a compact size (125.5×76.8×25.5mm); the PS1 has 8 PoE ports and 120W, plus 2 Gigabit uplinks. Choose the PS1E for up to 4 cameras, or the PS1 for 5–8 cameras.
Is 65W enough to power 4 cameras?
Typical Reolink PoE cameras consume approximately 6–10W each, so 4 cameras use around 30–55W in total, which is sufficient. If all 4 cameras are flagship models with PTZ and spotlights that activate simultaneously, we recommend using the 120W model instead.
Can it be used with the NVS36?
Yes, this is one of its main uses. The GbE ports on the NVS36 / RLN36 do not provide power, so adding the PS1E enables it to power 4 cameras.
Are the ports Gigabit or Fast Ethernet?
All 4 PoE ports and the uplink port support 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet.
Does it require configuration?
No. It is an unmanaged switch—just plug it in and connect the cables to use it.
Which PoE standards does it support?
It officially supports IEEE 802.3af and IEEE 802.3at, with a maximum of 30W per port.
Can non-PoE devices be connected?
Yes, it can be connected to standard network devices. It automatically detects devices and will not force power output.
Does it get very hot?
With a 65W power rating and a 234g metal chassis, it remains mildly warm under normal load. We recommend placing it separately and ensuring good ventilation.
How long is the warranty?
2-year manufacturer’s warranty.
Can it be used outdoors?
Not recommended. The operating humidity is 10%-90% non-condensing and the operating temperature is -10°C to 45°C, so it is intended for indoor use.

Not sure whether you need 4 or 8 ports?

Tell us the number and models of your cameras, and we will calculate the total power consumption to determine whether 65W is sufficient or whether you need the 8-port 120W model.
