Product Overview
The Reolink E331 is a mid-range indoor pan-tilt camera: 5MP (2880×1616), a 1/2.7" sensor, and a large F1.6 aperture, combined with 355° horizontal and 90° vertical pan-tilt coverage. Compared with the 3MP E321 in the same series, it offers higher resolution and a larger sensor; compared with the 4MP E1, it provides more light intake and dual-band Wi-Fi.
The official resolution is 2880×1616 (5 megapixels) @20fps. It features an f=4mm, F1.6 lens with IR-cut, a horizontal field of view of 87.5° and a vertical field of view of 45.4°, plus 12-meter infrared night vision. The pan-tilt range is 355°/90°, and the official specifications clearly state support for automatic tracking (Auto-Tracking).
Wireless connectivity supports IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz/5GHz) and WPA3. It supports microSD cards up to 512GB. The camera measures Φ73×114mm and weighs 171g, with an operating temperature range of -10°C to 55°C. This is an indoor model, and the official specifications do not state an IP waterproof rating.

The Real-World Difference Between 5MP and a 1/2.7" Sensor
2880×1616 is a specification positioned between 2K and 4K, with a 16:9 aspect ratio and approximately 25% more pixels than 4MP. At this price point, the real difference lies in the sensor: a 1/2.7" sensor has approximately 40% more area than the 1/3" sensors commonly used in entry-level indoor cameras. Combined with the F1.6 aperture, this results in noticeably lower noise under indoor lighting.
Indoor lighting is often uneven: very bright near windows and very dark in corners. A larger sensor and wider aperture mean the camera does not need to apply heavy gain to compensate for dark areas, so the image will not be filled with noise. This is the most practical significance of the words “1/2.7"” in the specifications.
20fps is smoother than the common 15fps, and the difference is noticeable when watching children or pets move indoors. The trade-off is slightly larger file sizes, but indoor Wi-Fi is usually not the bottleneck.

355°/90° Pan-Tilt and Automatic Tracking
The 355° horizontal range has an approximately 5° blind spot, usually at the rear of the camera where the cables are routed. Positioning this blind spot toward a wall effectively provides full coverage. The 90° vertical range extends from horizontal to directly downward, which is sufficient for viewing areas beside a bed, a pet cage, or the floor.
The official specifications clearly state support for automatic tracking: when a moving object is detected, the lens turns to follow it. For indoor use, note that tracking will keep the view moving. If you are monitoring a fixed area, such as a crib, it is recommended to turn off automatic tracking and retain only motion detection notifications.
- 355° Horizontal/90° Vertical
- Supports Auto-Tracking
- Tracking Recommended to Be Disabled for Fixed Monitoring Areas
Dual-Band Wi-Fi and WPA3
The official wireless specifications are 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, with support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz, and WPA3 encryption. For an indoor camera, the value of 5GHz is that it “won’t clash with the neighbors’ 2.4G.” The 2.4G band is extremely congested in Hong Kong homes, while 5GHz is usually much more stable.
Another factor is latency: the real-time viewing experience indoors depends heavily on the network. At close range, 5GHz offers lower latency and less jitter than 2.4GHz. If the camera and router are in the same room, 5GHz is recommended.
- 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax Dual-Band
- Supports WPA3 Encryption
- 5GHz Recommended for Indoor Use
12-Meter Infrared and Nighttime Performance
The official infrared night vision range is 12 meters (40 feet). Indoor rooms are generally 3-5 meters deep, so 12 meters is more than sufficient. Actual image quality will be affected by reflections from walls and obstructions from furniture; for the best results, point the camera toward the main activity area rather than the ceiling.
This indoor camera does not have a spotlight (the official specifications do not list full-color night vision), so nighttime footage is in black-and-white infrared. If you need to see colors at night, such as a baby’s complexion, choose a model with a spotlight.
- 12-Meter Infrared
- Official specifications do not list full-color night vision (the indoor model has no spotlight)
- Black-and-white infrared footage at night
512GB storage and recording setup
Supports up to 512GB microSD, which is among the larger capacities available for indoor cameras in this class. Indoor scenes typically trigger recordings infrequently, so 512GB can store footage for a considerable length of time.
A high-endurance surveillance-grade card is recommended. With continuous overwriting, a standard card may develop bad sectors after just one or two years, which can create the false impression that recording has failed rather than the card itself being faulty.
- microSD up to 512GB
- Surveillance-grade card recommended
- Primarily trigger-based recording
Dimensions, power supply and actual placement
The camera measures Φ73×114mm and weighs 171g, making it compact enough to sit unobtrusively on a bookshelf. The official operating temperature is -10°C to 55°C, with humidity of 20%-85%, which is fully sufficient for indoor environments.
The official specifications for this indoor model do not list an IP water-resistance rating, so do not install it in a bathroom or outdoors. Power is generally supplied via USB (the official specification sheet does not list the power requirements, so we will not fill them in), and you should check whether there is a nearby power outlet when choosing its placement.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the biggest difference between E331 and E321?
Resolution and sensor. E331 has a 5MP 2880×1616, 1/2.7" sensor, F1.6, and dual-band Wi-Fi; E321 has 3MP 2304×1296, 1/3", F2.0, and only 2.4GHz. The difference is especially noticeable in dim indoor environments.
What is the biggest difference between E331 and E1?
E331 has 5MP, 1/2.7", F1.6, 20fps, and dual-band Wi-Fi; E1 has 4MP, 1/3", F2.0, 15fps, and only 2.4GHz, but E1 features crying detection and weighs only 158g. Choose E331 for image quality, or consider E1 if baby crying detection is important.
Does the indoor camera need 5GHz?
It is recommended. The 2.4GHz band is extremely congested in Hong Kong homes, while 5GHz is generally more stable and has lower latency. If the camera and router are in the same room, choose 5GHz directly.
Is auto-tracking suitable for indoor use?
It depends on the use case. It is useful for tracking moving pets; for monitoring a baby cot or a fixed area, we recommend turning it off, as tracking will continuously move the camera and make it harder to see the fixed position clearly.
Is the night vision in color or black and white?
The official specifications for E331 do not list full-color night vision (the indoor camera does not have a spotlight), so nighttime footage is in black-and-white infrared. To view footage in color, choose a model with a spotlight.
Can it be installed in a bathroom?
Not recommended. The official specifications do not state an IP waterproof rating, and steam and water splashes may affect its lifespan.
What is the maximum microSD card capacity supported?
The official specification states a maximum of 512GB. We recommend using a high-endurance card designed for surveillance cameras.
Does it support Alexa/Google?
The official specifications for E331 do not list a Smart Home compatibility section, so we cannot guarantee compatibility. If voice integration is essential, please confirm with us before placing your order.
Is there a noticeable difference with 20fps?
Yes. When watching children or pets moving around, 20fps is smoother than 15fps and produces less motion blur.
Is one camera enough to cover a living room?
With a 355° pan-tilt range and 87.5° field of view, placing it in a corner can cover most of a living room. If you need to clearly monitor two areas that are far apart (such as the living room and hallway) at the same time, we recommend using two cameras.
Want to know where is the best place to position E331?
Send us a floor plan or a few photos of the room, and we can help you choose the best placement, identify potential blind spots, and determine whether a second camera is needed to cover the hallway.
