Product Overview
HP8 is a video doorbell with wired power and battery backup. It connects to AC 110–240V(i.e. the existing doorbell wiring), runs on mains power in daily use, and has a built-in 9600mAh removable lithium battery — it can continue operating and recording during a power outage, which purely battery-powered doorbells cannot do.
The specifications on this page are extracted from the official EZVIZ HP8 product page: CS-HP8、1/2.8" Progressive Scan CMOS(enhanced low-light performance)、2.3mm F2.2、5MP、15fps、H.265/H.264、9600mAh removable battery、Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n with Wi-Fi 6 support、2.4GHz、AC 110–240V、body weight 341g、chime weight 59g.
Its most practical difference is full-colour night vision: the official specifications state that faces can be clearly seen within 1 metre. Hong Kong corridors usually have some lighting but may suffer from colour distortion, so full-colour night vision is much more useful than black-and-white infrared for identifying uniform and vehicle-plate colours, as well as package labels.

Wired Power + Battery Backup: Reliable in Both Situations
The benefit of connecting to AC 110–240V is that you do not need to regularly remove the device for charging, avoiding the hassle of thinking it is fully charged when it actually is not. The built-in 9600mAh battery also serves as a backup: the doorbell can continue recording during a power outage, tripped circuit breaker, or when a technician switches off the main power.
Note that this is not a “truly wireless” model — the installation location needs existing doorbell wiring(or you will need an electrician to install it). If there is no wiring at all by the door, you can only run exposed wiring or choose a purely battery-powered model instead.
- Powered by mains electricity, no regular charging required
- Battery backup remains available during power outages
- Existing doorbell wiring or new wiring required
5MP and Full-Colour Night Vision
It features an official 5MP rating, a 1/2.8" sensor(highlighting low-light performance), and 2.3mm F2.2. The 2.3mm lens is ultra-wide-angle, making it suitable for scenarios such as corridors and lift entrances where you need to cover a wide area at close range.
Full-colour night vision is this model's key selling point: the official description states that faces can be clearly seen within 1 metre. In practice, full-colour mode requires an auxiliary light in completely dark environments and consumes more power; it performs best when the corridor itself has lighting.
- 5MP High Resolution
- 2.3mm Ultra-Wide Angle Suitable for Corridors
- Full-Colour Night Vision Clearly Captures Faces Within 1 Metre
Wi-Fi 6: More Stable in Older Buildings with Many Users Online
The official specifications list Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n with Wi-Fi 6 support. The actual benefit of Wi-Fi 6 is not that it is “faster”, but that it is “less likely to become congested when many people are using it at the same time” — helpful in older buildings where multiple households share the 2.4GHz network in the corridor area.
Note that it still only supports 2.4GHz. If your router only has 5GHz enabled, or uses “5GHz preferred” smart switching, the device may not be found during pairing. You will need to enable 2.4GHz on the router first.
- Supports Wi-Fi 6
- Supports 2.4GHz band only
- Please ensure 2.4GHz is enabled before pairing
The Practical Meaning of the 9600mAh Removable Battery
“Removable” is more important than “high capacity”: it means the battery can be replaced when it ages, so you do not need to replace the entire device. It also means that during a power outage, you can remove it and charge it with a power bank, or purchase a second battery for rotation.
With mains power as the primary source and the battery serving as backup, you do not need to worry about the battery level in daily use; you only need to pay attention when the power outage lasts a long time or recording is triggered frequently.
- Removable design; replaceable when the battery ages
- Continues operating during power outages
- Runs on mains power, so there is no need to manage the battery
Includes a doorbell chime: a doorbell only counts if you can hear it indoors
Includes a 59g indoor doorbell chime. Many video doorbells only send smartphone notifications — but when you are at home, your phone is in another room, or an elderly family member is not familiar with smartphones, “someone is at the door” is effectively the same as receiving no notification at all.
The indoor doorbell chime is the most easily overlooked yet practically useful accessory for this type of product. If you are buying a doorbell for your family, this should be taken into consideration.
- Includes an indoor doorbell chime (59g)
- No need to rely on smartphone notifications
- Suitable for households with elderly family members
Storage and Cloud
The official HP8 specification sheet focuses mainly on the battery and power supply in the storage section. Please confirm the microSD support specifications for your batch with us before placing an order. For cloud storage, EZVIZ CloudPlay is supported (subscription required).
Our recommendation: If you need to review footage over the long term, confirm the card slot and maximum capacity before deciding whether to purchase a card. If you are unsure, enabling cloud storage is the most reliable option.
- CloudPlay cloud support
- Please confirm microSD support for your batch in advance
- We recommend backing up important footage to the cloud

Frequently Asked Questions
Does it have to be hardwired?
HP8 is primarily powered by AC 110–240V, so the installation location needs doorbell wiring; the built-in battery is for backup, not the primary power source. If there is no wiring at all, you will need to install wiring or choose a battery-only model.
Will it stop recording during a power outage?
It will not stop immediately. The built-in 9600mAh removable battery will continue supplying power during a power outage. Battery life depends on usage.
Does full-color night vision require a fill light?
The official specification states that faces can be clearly seen within 1 m. Performance is best when there is light in the corridor; in completely dark environments, the device's built-in fill light is required, which will increase power consumption.
Does it support 5GHz Wi-Fi?
No. The official specifications list 2.4GHz (802.11b/g/n, supporting Wi-Fi 6). Please make sure your router's 2.4GHz band is enabled before pairing.
Can I insert a microSD card?
The official HP8 specification sheet does not clearly list a microSD card slot or maximum capacity. Please confirm the specifications for your batch with us before ordering; CloudPlay cloud storage is supported.
Is the indoor chime included?
Yes, the package includes an indoor chime (officially listed at 59 g).
Is it waterproof?
The official HP8 specification sheet does not list an IP rating. The doorbell is designed for outdoor use, but installation under an eave or in a sheltered location is recommended.
Is it suitable for iron gates or glass doors?
No. It requires a mounting base installed on a flat wall or door frame; iron gates and glass doors require additional accessories or a different solution.
