In recent years, the professional monitor headphones "ATH-M50x" and wireless over-ear headphones "ATH-M50xBT2" have not only delivered outstanding sound quality, but have also regularly introduced limited-edition colors that let users enjoy their distinctive designs. Since 2020, Audio-Technica has held the "M50x Series Limited-Edition Color Poll" online, allowing users to decide the color of that year's limited-edition model. The event has attracted numerous headphone enthusiasts from around the world.

 In 2024, we invited users to participate in designing a limited-edition color for the first time. In January of the same year, we launched a dedicated website called "LAB M50x". Inspired by the concept of an "M50x" laboratory, the website allowed everyone to personally select the colors of the headphone components, create their own designs, and submit concepts for the 2024 limited-edition color. Three specialist judges then selected the finalists from 14,560 outstanding submissions, and the design that received 3,127 votes in the final poll became the representative color of this "LAB M50x" project.

The design that won by an overwhelming number of votes was the "ATH-M50x LAB," which was also released as the 2024 annual limited-edition color in a limited quantity.
