Reolink Go Plus is a standalone camera that requires neither a network cable nor Wi-Fi: simply insert a 4G SIM card and install the battery to record and send push notifications at locations without broadband access. Its purpose is clear — it is designed for places with “no network” or “no power supply,” such as container yards, construction site fences, farmland, open-air parking spaces, and the exterior of village houses.

The official specifications are 2560×1440（4 megapixels）@15fps, with a 1/2.7" CMOS sensor, an f=2.8mm lens with an F1.6 aperture and IR-cut filter, and a field of view of 125° diagonal, 105° horizontal, and 55° vertical. It is sufficient to cover the front area of a standard parking space or a container entrance.

Power is supplied by a 3.6V 7800mAh (28.08Wh) rechargeable battery, with support for the Reolink Solar Panel 2 (3W) for continuous top-up charging. Two important points must be made clear: first, it has neither PoE nor Wi-Fi and relies entirely on 4G transmission; second, its recording mode is Triggered recording and it does not support 24/7 continuous recording — this is a physical limitation of battery-powered cameras, not a fault.

Image Quality, Lens and Field of View

Go Plus combines a 1/2.7" CMOS sensor with an f=2.8mm F1.6 wide-angle lens. It offers an official resolution of 2560×1440, a frame rate of 10-15fps (15fps by default), a main stream bitrate of 1024-4096Kbps (2048Kbps by default), and a sub-stream bitrate of 64-672Kbps. It supports both H.264 and H.265. When using 4G, H.265 can significantly reduce data usage, which makes a practical cost difference for SIM cards with usage-based billing.

The 105° horizontal field of view can cover an approximately 10-meter-wide frontal area from a distance of around 6-8 meters. For the best balance, install it at a height of 2.5-3 meters with the lens angled downward by approximately 30°: too wide a view makes distant details smaller, while too narrow a view may fail to cover the entrance and exit completely. The F1.6 aperture is moderately large for its class. In daylight, the details are sufficient to identify human figures, clothing colors, and vehicle models; at night, it relies on infrared and produces monochrome footage.

Note that the identification capability of 4MP is limited beyond 8 meters. If your purpose is to find out “who this person is” after the event, rather than “whether someone came by,” the 4K Go Ultra is more suitable. If you only need to monitor an entrance and record whether people or vehicles enter and exit, 2K is sufficient, while using less data and offering longer battery life.

4G Connectivity and Network Operation

The camera has a built-in LTE module. Insert a SIM card that supports the relevant frequency bands, and it will transmit footage to the Reolink App via 4G. No router, broadband connection, network cable, or fixed IP is required on site. The official frequency bands vary by region: European version LTE-FDD B1/B3/B7/B8/B20/B28A、WCDMA B1/B8; US version LTE-FDD B2/B4/B5/B12/B13/B14/B66/B71; an Australian version is also available. Before using it in Hong Kong, let us know your carrier and we will check the frequency bands and APN for you.

For transmission capacity, the official specification states support for up to 12 simultaneous streams (2 main streams＋10 sub-streams). Client support covers Windows、Mac、iOS、Android, along with standard protocols including SSL／TCP/IP／UDP/UPNP／SMTP／NTP／P2P. When multiple people use the same account to view the camera, they will not disconnect one another.

The most common practical issue with 4G cameras is not image quality but signal strength. Before installation, use a mobile phone on site to check the signal bars of the same carrier. If there are only one or two bars, the camera will continuously increase its power while searching for a signal, significantly worsening both power consumption and disconnections — for such locations, consider signal extension first or switch to a model with a wired network connection.

Power Supply, Battery and Solar Power

The battery specification is 3.6V 7800mAh, officially rated at 28.08Wh, and charged via USB Type-C (5V/2A). The official description of battery life is “depending on usage, trigger frequency, and signal strength,” without specifying a fixed number of days — this is an honest approach, because the actual difference can be several times greater between the same battery installed in a parking space with a strong signal and one installed on farmland with a weak signal.

The original manufacturer offers the Reolink Solar Panel 2 (3W). In sufficient sunlight, the 3W panel mainly “delays battery drain” and is not enough to support frequent triggering. If the camera is triggered dozens of times a day, a larger solar panel or a model with wired power is recommended. If you plan to leave it unattended during Christmas, New Year, or a long holiday, fully charge the battery before leaving and make sure the solar panel is not obstructed.

The recording mode is triggered recording, and timeline time-lapse can be enabled. This means that the camera only wakes up to record and upload when triggered by PIR or motion detection; at other times, it remains in low-power standby mode. For uninterrupted 24-hour recording, use a PoE camera or NVR solution instead of trying to rely on a battery-powered camera.

Night Vision, Detection & Alerts

Night vision is provided by 6 × 850nm infrared LEDs, with an officially stated effective range of 10m (33ft). The 10m range means being able to “recognize that someone is present,” not “read a license plate clearly”; pointing the camera at an entrance or exit within 3–6m is far more practical than aiming it at a road 20m away.

The PIR detection angle is 120° horizontally, with a 10m range. The official specifications state that it supports person, vehicle, and animal detection classification, as well as instant email and push notifications. The value of classification detection is that it reduces false alarms: by separating “animals” from “people,” you won’t be repeatedly woken up at night by cats, dogs, or leaves blowing in the wind.

Alerts and notifications can be individually enabled or disabled in the app: PIR, motion detection, person detection, vehicle detection, and animal detection. We recommend enabling everything at first and observing for a week, then narrowing the settings down one by one after identifying the sources of false alarms. This is more useful than turning everything off from the beginning.

Storage, App & Smart Home

The device supports a maximum 128GB microSD card, with recordings saved to the card. If supported in your country, Reolink Cloud can also be used for cloud backup. We recommend choosing a surveillance-grade microSD card labeled for high endurance; standard cards have a much shorter lifespan under repeated overwriting.

App features include live viewing, event playback, two-way audio, customizable alert sounds, push notifications, and email notifications. It is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing you to call up the camera feed on a smart speaker. The official specifications state that 1 administrator account and up to 12 simultaneous streams can be configured.

It is worth familiarizing yourself with the event playback process in advance: triggered clips are marked on the timeline, and tapping one takes you directly to the recording from that time, without having to search from the beginning. If you have multiple cameras, we recommend naming and grouping them by location in the app, so you can find clips much faster later.

Installation, Protection & Maintenance

The official specifications state IP65, making it suitable for outdoor use. However, IP65 only means protection against dust and water jets; it does not mean the device can be submerged or directly exposed to a high-pressure water jet. During installation, pointing the lens and ports downward and adding waterproof tape are the most basic and effective precautions.

In Hong Kong, metal or dark-colored housings installed in west-facing locations can become extremely hot under the summer sun. The device temperature directly affects battery life and charging efficiency, so add a sunshade if possible.

There are only three regular maintenance tasks: check the battery level in the app, clean dust from the lens and infrared cover (dust can make night vision footage appear washed out), and check whether the SIM card data allowance has been used up. Keeping these three things in order will make the stability of a 4G camera very close to that of a wired model.
