Installation Location and WiFi Signal

The battery-powered camera has no network cable, so its connection relies entirely on WiFi. Before installation, use the Reolink App to test the signal strength at the location. If it is below two bars, do not install the camera, otherwise it may record footage but fail to transmit it, resulting in choppy playback when reviewing footage later.

An installation height of 2.5 to 3 metres is recommended: mounting it too low makes it easy to touch or tamper with, while mounting it too high creates a top-down angle on people's faces. Tilting the lens downward by 15 to 20 degrees can provide a good balance between capturing faces and the ground.

A common issue in Hong Kong is that exterior walls are made of reinforced concrete, which causes significant signal attenuation. If the signal is insufficient, try adjusting the router antennas toward the installation location, or add a Mesh node between the two. This usually makes a more noticeable difference than switching to a more expensive camera.
