Product Introduction

The EP8 Ultra is a “dual-lens” peephole doorbell: the 6MP lens on top captures faces, while the 1080p lens below is dedicated to the ground in front of the door — recording everything from the moment a parcel is placed on the ground to the moment someone takes it away. This angle is impossible to achieve with a standard single-lens peephole camera.

The specifications on this page are extracted from the official EZVIZ EP8 Ultra product page: CS-EP8 Ultra, 1/2.8" Progressive Scan CMOS, upper lens 2.0mm F1.6/162° diagonal, lower lens 1.8mm F2.4/88° diagonal, main camera 6MP 2464×2464, lower camera 2MP 1920×1080, fixed 15fps, H.265/H.264, built-in 32GB eMMC, 9600mAh battery, 8–24VAC or Type-C 5V, IP65.

Installation uses the existing peephole opening in the front door, while the indoor unit uses a 4.97-inch screen to display the footage. It is ideal for residents who frequently receive online deliveries but do not want to drill holes or modify the door. If your door does not have a peephole, first check whether a new opening can be made, or choose a wall-mounted doorbell instead.

Why You Need a Second Downward-Facing Lens

At the entrances of most Hong Kong homes, parcels are usually left “against the wall”: the courier places the package on the ground beside the door, rings the bell, and leaves. The horizontal view of a single-lens peephole camera can only capture the person’s upper body, while the parcel itself is often outside the frame or only partially visible. The EP8 Ultra’s bottom lens has an 88° vertical downward-facing view, covering approximately one square metre of ground in front of the door.

In practice: someone rings the bell → you open the app and see the person’s face and the ground at the same time. If the parcel goes missing, you can review the footage and directly see “who bent down and took it, and at what time.” This evidence-grade footage is the biggest difference between it and the manufacturer’s single-lens models.

  • Top Lens for Faces, Bottom Lens for the Ground
  • Records Parcels Even When They Are Placed on the Ground
  • Review Footage to Identify Exactly When the Parcel Was Taken

6MP Main Camera with 2464×2464 Square Image

The main camera has a resolution of 2464×2464, with an almost square 1:1 aspect ratio. Combined with its 162° diagonal field of view, it can capture both a person’s face and the door frame in the same image. A square sensor is a sensible design for a peephole camera — since the peephole itself is circular, a square output makes more efficient use of the optical circle than a 16:9 format.

The limitation to understand is that the frame rate is fixed at 15fps, not 30fps. It is sufficient for seeing who someone is, but not ideal for capturing the details of fast-moving actions.

  • 2464×2464 Square 6MP
  • 162° Ultra-Wide Angle
  • Fixed 15fps

4.97-inch Indoor Screen: The Half Designed for Family Use

The actual users of a peephole camera are often not the people who purchase it, but elderly family members or children. The EP8 Ultra indoor unit features a 4.97-inch color touchscreen that lights up with a single tap, without needing to open a phone app or remember a password.

The screen also serves as the storage display and settings interface in addition to the microSD card. If someone in your household is not comfortable using a smartphone, this screen is the key to whether the entire system can truly be used effectively.

  • 4.97-inch Touchscreen
  • View the Door Without a Phone
  • Easy for Seniors and Children to Operate

9600mAh Battery with Dual Power Options

The official rating is a 9600mAh rechargeable lithium battery, with an additional spare battery included. Based on an estimate of 20 events per day, it generally lasts 1–2 months; actual battery life depends on the number of detections and how often live view is used.

There are two power options: 8–24VAC, meaning connection to the existing doorbell transformer, or Type-C 5V. If your front door already has doorbell wiring, connecting to 8–24VAC provides continuous power, so you do not need to remove the unit for charging. If there is no doorbell wiring, use the battery.

  • 9600mAh+Spare Battery
  • Supports 8–24VAC Continuous Power
  • Also supports Type-C charging

IP65 and Mounting Hole Diameter

Officially rated IP65, it can withstand rain splashes and is suitable for Hong Kong entrance doors with awnings or semi-outdoor installations. For heavy rain or locations directly exposed to wind and rain, additional shelter is still recommended.

Installation uses the existing peephole: the official specifications are based on the peephole diameter and door thickness (please confirm your door's actual hole requirements with us before placing an order). Not suitable for glass doors, metal gates, or solid doors without a peephole; a wall-mounted doorbell is required instead.

  • IP65 splash-proof
  • Uses the existing peephole
  • Not suitable for glass doors / metal gates

Storage: Built-in 32GB, no card slot

The EP8 Ultra uses built-in 32GB eMMC and **does not support microSD**. The storage section of the official specifications lists only eMMC and CloudPlay. With 15fps event recording, 32GB can store approximately several weeks to two months of footage, with continuous loop recording.

If video evidence is important to you (for example, if you frequently need to report stolen parcels), we recommend enabling CloudPlay backup as well: if the main unit is removed or damaged, clips will still be available in the cloud. This must be clarified before placing an order, as storage cannot be expanded by adding a card.

  • Built-in 32GB eMMC
  • Does not support microSD expansion
  • Cloud backup recommended for important clips

Frequently Asked Questions

How do the dual cameras work?
The upper 6MP camera (2.0mm F1.6, 162° diagonal) captures people at the door, while the lower 1080p camera (1.8mm F2.4, 88° diagonal) focuses on the area directly in front of the door. You can view both feeds simultaneously in the app.
Can I insert a microSD card?
No. The EP8 Ultra has built-in 32GB eMMC storage, and the official specifications do not list a microSD card slot. If you need expandable storage or off-site backups, you can only subscribe to EZVIZ CloudPlay.
How long does the battery last?
The official capacity is 9600mAh, and one spare battery is included. Based on approximately 20 events per day, it can last 1–2 months; frequent live viewing or heavy foot traffic will reduce the battery life. Connecting it to 8–24VAC provides continuous power.
Can it be used with my front door?
A peephole is required for installation. Glass doors, metal gates, and solid doors without a suitable hole are not compatible. Please confirm the required hole diameter and door thickness with us before placing your order.
How waterproof is it?
It has an official IP65 rating and is protected against water splashes. It is best suited for an entrance door with an awning; additional shelter is recommended for doors directly exposed to wind and rain.
Is the indoor screen required?
The screen is the primary control and display unit. You can use the app alone without installing it, but you will lose the convenience of one-tap viewing, and it may be less convenient for elderly users.
What is the night vision range?
The official infrared night vision range is up to 6 meters (with an ICR infrared filter).
What does 8–24VAC power supply mean?
This is the AC voltage range used by traditional doorbell transformers. If you have an existing wired doorbell, it can be connected for continuous power. If you are unsure of the voltage, please measure it first or consult a professional installer.

EP8 Ultra: Clearly records who took your package

Tell us whether your front door has a peephole and whether your existing doorbell is wired. We will help you confirm the installation method and whether a professional installer is required.
