Product Overview

The Tamron A058 is a high-magnification zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras, featuring a 35-150mm focal range, a maximum aperture of F2 at the wide end and F2.8 at the telephoto end, an optical construction of 21 elements in 15 groups, a minimum focusing distance of 0.33m (wide angle) / 0.85m (telephoto), and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.7 / 1:5.9. Autofocusing is powered by a VXD linear motor. The Sony E-mount version measures 158mm in length, weighs 1,165g, and takes Φ82mm filters. One lens covers the focal lengths commonly used for portraits, events, weddings, and travel, so there is no need to carry three prime lenses.

Six Key Features

01Replaces Several Prime LensesOne lens covers the commonly used 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 135mm focal lengths, so you can shoot on location without changing lenses.
02Wide-End F2 ApertureF2 at 35mm and F2.8 even at 150mm provide plenty of light for indoor and night photography.
03Fast and Quiet AutofocusThe VXD linear motor delivers reliable eye AF for portraits and quiet tracking autofocus for video without focus hunting.
04Useful Close-Focusing CapabilityWith a minimum focusing distance of 0.33m at the wide end and 0.85m at the telephoto end, you can capture food, accessories, and fine details.
05Unified 82mm Filter SizeLike most fast zoom lenses in this class, it uses the same filter diameter, allowing one set of ND and CPL filters to be shared.
069-Blade Circular ApertureBokeh remains smooth and rounded when stopped down, while background transitions stay natural for portraits.

Why This Lens

Portraits: 35 to 150mm in One Lens

Use 35mm for environmental portraits, 85mm for half-body portraits, and 135-150mm for close-ups with a compressed background. You can shoot without changing lenses, keeping your rhythm uninterrupted.

Events and Weddings: Capture More Even in Low Light

With F2 at the wide end and F2.8 at the telephoto end, indoor banquets and evening ceremonies can be captured without pushing ISO through the roof. The 9-blade circular aperture keeps background light sources round.

Close-Ups and Details

The 0.33m minimum focusing distance at the wide end lets you photograph food, flowers, and product details without carrying a separate macro lens. At the telephoto end, the 0.85m working distance lets you photograph small subjects while maintaining a comfortable distance.

Video: Quiet Autofocus, Low Focus Breathing

The VXD linear motor focuses quietly. Combined with the camera's eye-tracking autofocus, it lets you capture moving subjects without recording motor noise.

Frequently Asked Questions

35-150mm vs. 24-70: which one is right for me?

If you mainly photograph people and events, the 35-150 covers four commonly used focal lengths—35/50/85/135—so one lens is enough; for wide landscapes or indoor spaces, you will still need a wide-angle lens starting at 24mm.

How much difference is there between F2 and F2.8?

At the wide-angle end, the 35mm maximum aperture is F2, providing approximately one stop more light than F2.8. At the telephoto end, the 150mm aperture is F2.8. This allows you to use a shutter speed one stop faster for indoor and nighttime photography.

What happens when it is mounted on an APS-C camera body?

It can be used with Sony E-mount APS-C camera bodies, with an equivalent angle of view of approximately 52.5-225mm. However, the lens is designed for full-frame cameras, so its size and weight will not be reduced.

Is the autofocus fast enough for photographing children and pets?

With its VXD linear motor and the camera body's human-eye/animal-eye autofocus, it can continuously track moving children and pets. Actual performance depends on the camera body model.

Will 1,165g be too heavy?

It is slightly heavier than comparable F2.8 professional zoom lenses, but in return, one lens effectively replaces three prime lenses. For extended handheld shooting, using a camera grip or monopod is recommended.
