Product Overview

Reolink NVS8-5MB4 is a “ready-to-install” PoE security camera kit: an 8-channel NVR (with a built-in 2TB hard drive) plus 4 × 5MP 2K+ cameras, including 4 × 18 m PoE network cables. The cameras use PoE, so a single cable provides both power and data transmission, eliminating the need for a separate power outlet for each camera.

Official camera specifications for this kit: 5MP 2K+ up to 25fps, 2.0mm／F2.0 lens (80° horizontal, 48° vertical), motion／person／vehicle／animal detection, PoE power, IP67 weather resistance and two-way audio.

NVR specifications: 8 channels (up to 12 IP channels), 8 PoE ports (25W per port), 1 SATA＋1 eSATA, up to 12TB (built-in 2TB), 4K HDMI output, 4-channel simultaneous playback and H.265. Practical Coverage with 5MP 2K+ and an 80° Lens

5MP (2K+) @25fps delivers mid-range image quality, while the 2.0mm／F2.0 lens provides an 80° horizontal and 48° vertical field of view. An 80° view is not ultra-wide-angle, but its advantage is less subject distortion, making it suitable for entrances and corridors.

25fps is smoother than the commonly used 15fps, so moving people will not show noticeable motion trails. For locations such as shop checkout counters where it is important to see movements clearly, this frame-rate difference is very practical.

PoE Single-Cable Setup: Simplified Installation

All 4 cameras are powered through the NVR’s PoE ports. On-site, you only need 4 network cables running back to the NVR—no need for 4 power outlets or 4 power adapters. For shops that have already been renovated, this is a particularly practical advantage.

Each port supports up to 25W (802.3af/at), which is sufficient to power cameras with infrared and spotlights. The cables can be routed through indoor ceilings or cable trunking; outdoor sections require waterproof connectors.

People, Vehicle & Animal Detection with Mobile Notifications

The cameras support motion, person, vehicle and animal detection, while the NVR supports AI video search and perimeter protection (provided that the cameras support these features). In practice, you can choose to receive alerts only for people and vehicles, reducing false alarms caused by cats, dogs and leaves blowing in the wind.

Two-way audio lets you speak directly to people at the scene, making it highly practical for shop entrances or village houses.

IP67 and 24/7 continuous recording

IP67 camera: Completely dustproof and able to withstand temporary immersion, making it better suited to Hong Kong's heavy rain than IP65. The connectors should still face downward during installation and be properly waterproofed.

The NVR supports 24/7 continuous recording (no trigger required), which is the biggest difference between a PoE kit and battery-powered cameras — footage from before an event is also captured. The built-in 2TB can store approximately several weeks of footage from 4 5MP cameras, depending on the bitrate.
