Product Overview

The Reolink Altas PT Ultra is the pan/tilt version of the Altas: it features the same large 1/1.8" sensor with f=4mm F1.0, and likewise has no infrared and relies on full-color night vision. It adds 355° horizontal and 90° vertical pan/tilt, auto-tracking, and the officially specified 24/4 recording mode (continuous recording).

Official Resolution3840×2160 (8 megapixels) @15fps, with a 110° diagonal, 90° horizontal, and 50° vertical field of view, H.264/H.265 dual encoding, and 10-15fps for the main and sub streams. The pan/tilt range is 355°/90°, with support for auto-tracking.

Powered by a 3.6V 20000mAh rechargeable battery, with support for the Reolink Solar Panel 2 (6W); supports up to a 512GB microSD card; IP65 weather resistance (one level lower than the fixed Altas version's IP66); weight: 853g (excluding the bracket). Officially stated to support Home Hub.

The combination of 4K and 1/1.8" F1.0

With 4K 8MP, a large 1/1.8" sensor, and an F1.0 aperture, this is one of the few cameras in this group that balances both resolution and light-gathering capability. Most 4K battery-powered cameras use a smaller 1/2.7" sensor and produce more noise at night; this model closes the gap with its large sensor.

The difference from the fixed Altas version is the resolution: the Altas is 2560×1440 4MP, while the PT Ultra is 3840×2160 8MP. At the same field of view, 4K retains more detail even at a distance of 10 meters, making it suitable for scenes where you need to identify faces or vehicle models.

355°/90° Pan/Tilt and Auto-Tracking

The pan/tilt range is 355° horizontally and 90° vertically, and the official specifications explicitly state support for auto-tracking: when a moving object is detected, the lens turns toward it and continues to follow it. This is highly practical for using one camera to cover an entire front yard.

Note that the vertical range is only 90°, from horizontal to directly downward, and it cannot tilt upward. If you need to view elevated areas, such as a second-floor exterior wall or an area above a slope, consider the installation angle carefully beforehand. In addition, the viewing angle continuously changes during tracking, so for evidence-collection purposes, it is recommended to retain a section of footage from a fixed view.

  • 355° Horizontal/90° Vertical
  • Supports Auto-Tracking
  • The view continuously rotates during tracking; a fixed camera position is recommended for evidence collection

What Is the Official 24/4 Recording Mode?

The official recording modes are listed as “Motion recording, schedule recording, 24/4 recording”. 24/4 is Reolink's name for its “24-hour continuous recording” mode (as opposed to the 24/7 wording), meaning that it supports continuous recording throughout the day rather than recording only when triggered.

However, feature support does not mean the battery can last indefinitely: continuous recording will drain the 20000mAh battery within days. To truly use it in 24/4 mode, it must be paired with a Solar Panel 2 (6W) and receive stable sunlight, or you should switch to a wired-powered model.

  • Supports three modes: continuous (24/4), scheduled, and triggered recording
  • Continuous recording requires solar power or a fixed power supply
  • Battery capacity: 3.6V 20000mAh

The Trade-Off of Having No Infrared

Like the fixed Altas version, the official specifications state that infrared night vision is NO, relying entirely on ColorX full-color night vision. It performs very well at night in locations with ambient light, such as from porch lights, streetlights, or corridor lights, but will appear relatively dark in complete darkness.

Another benefit of this design is the absence of a “red-light hotspot”: unlike infrared cameras, it does not produce a bright white patch in the center of the image, so facial details generally look more natural.

  • Official specification: Infrared NO
  • Full-color night vision YES
  • Suitable for locations with ambient light

Storage, App & Home Hub

Supports up to 512GB microSD; continuous recording is required for meaningful footage retention. Supports Reolink Cloud (depending on region). Officially confirmed to support Home Hub for centralized storage.

The app supports pan-tilt control, auto-tracking toggle, live view, playback, two-way audio, and push notifications; compatible with Google Assistant; supports up to 12 simultaneous streams (2 main + 10 sub-streams).

  • Up to 512GB microSD
  • Supports Home Hub
  • Up to 12 simultaneous streams

IP65, Weight & Installation

Officially rated IP65: dustproof and protected against water spray, one level below the fixed Altas model’s IP66 rating. Installation in a location with basic shelter is recommended, with the ports facing downward and waterproof tape applied.

Dimensions: 178×151×102mm; weight: 853g (excluding bracket); operating temperature: -20°C to 55°C. The weight is not particularly light, and combined with the pan-tilt movement, the mounting bracket must be able to bear the load and be securely fixed to a solid wall.

  • IP65 dustproof and water-spray resistant
  • 178×151×102mm/853g
  • Operating temperature: -20°C to 55°C

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the biggest differences between Altas PT Ultra and Altas?
Resolution and pan-tilt functionality. PT Ultra features 4K 8MP, a 355°/90° pan-tilt mechanism with auto tracking, and weighs 853g; Altas features 4MP fixed positioning, weighs 554g, and has an IP66 rating. Both feature 1/1.8" F1.0, 20000mAh, and 512GB storage, with no infrared.
Does the official “24/4 recording” mean continuous recording?
Yes, it means continuous recording throughout the day (based on the 24/7 naming convention). However, the battery cannot support long periods of continuous recording, so actual use requires a solar panel or a fixed power supply.
Why is there no infrared? Can it still see at night?
The official specifications indicate Infrared: NO; it relies on full-color night vision. Color images are visible in areas with entrance lights or streetlights, but completely dark back alleys or farmland may appear dim. For these locations, choose an Argus series model with infrared.
Is a vertical range of only 90° sufficient?
The 90° range extends from horizontal to directly downward, which is sufficient for viewing the ground, parking spaces, and entrances. However, it cannot tilt upward, so the mount angle must be adjusted to cover areas above a slope or at higher elevations.
Will auto tracking affect footage collection?
Yes, the viewing angle constantly changes during tracking. For stable evidence footage, we recommend disabling tracking and keeping notifications enabled, or adding a fixed-position camera.
What should I pay attention to when installing the 853g model?
Use a load-bearing mount and expansion screws to secure it to concrete or brick walls. Thin panels, wooden boards, and metal sheets require additional reinforcement; otherwise, the pan-tilt movement combined with wind may cause image shake.
Can the IP65 model be installed outdoors?
It can be used outdoors, but it is not resistant to immersion or high-pressure water jets. Keep the connectors facing downward and apply waterproof tape; installation in a location with basic shelter is recommended.
What is the relationship between a 512GB card and continuous recording?
Continuous recording can generate several GB to more than 10GB per day, so a 128GB card will be overwritten quickly. 512GB provides a practical recording retention period. A surveillance-grade card is recommended.
Does it support Home Hub?
Yes. The official specifications clearly state Home Hub Compatibility: YES.
Does Wi-Fi need to be 2.4G or 5G?
It supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz/5GHz). 5GHz is recommended for high-bitrate use at close range, while 2.4GHz is better for penetrating walls or longer distances. 5GHz is recommended for 4K continuous recording.
