Product Overview
Reolink Altas is a Wi-Fi battery camera that requires neither wired power nor a network cable, but it takes a different approach from typical battery cameras: instead of relying on infrared illumination, it uses a large 1/1.8" sensor paired with an f=4mm F1.0 large aperture for full-color night vision. The official specifications explicitly state Infrared Night Vision: Not supported, meaning there is no infrared at night at all; it relies entirely on ambient light and the sensor itself.
The official resolution is 2560×1440 (4 megapixels), with a maximum of 15fps. The field of view is 110° diagonally, 90° horizontally, and 50° vertically. Wireless connectivity is Wi-Fi 6-class (IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, 2.4GHz/5GHz, WPA3), and Bluetooth 5.0 is also supported for nearby pairing.
Power is supplied by a 20000mAh rechargeable battery, with support for the Reolink Solar Panel 2 (6W). It supports up to 512GB microSD, 2-10 seconds of pre-event recording, and continuous recording mode. With IP66 water resistance, it has the highest protection rating among the cameras in this selection. The official specifications also indicate support for Reolink Home Hub.

Six Key Highlights
Night Vision
ColorX Full-Color
No infrared; full-color night vision powered by F1.0 and a large sensor
The first thing to clarify about this camera is that the official specifications state that infrared night vision is not supported (Not supported). Its nighttime performance comes entirely from the 1/1.8" sensor and the f=4mm F1.0 large aperture — the large amount of incoming light allows it to produce color footage in areas with streetlights, porch lights, or moonlight.
The trade-off is that it performs noticeably poorly in completely dark environments, such as back alleys without streetlights or farmland far from residential areas. Before purchasing, ask yourself: “Is there any light at this location at night?” With light, this camera’s color night vision is among the strongest in its class; without light, you should choose a model with infrared.
- Officially stated: Infrared night vision not supported
- Full-Color Night Vision: Supported (ColorX)

20000mAh battery and the 18-month standby claim
The official battery-life claim is based on a specific scenario: motion detection mode with 300 seconds of recording per day, lasting up to 18 months (540 days). The premise is “only 300 seconds of recording per day,” which represents a low-activity environment, such as a parking space or back door with little foot traffic.
The official specifications also list battery life in continuous recording mode (significantly shorter), as well as the solar charging requirements: under the low-activity scenario above, approximately 10 minutes of sunlight per day is enough to replenish the power used. This means it is actually quite energy-efficient — as long as you do not need 24/7 continuous recording.
- 20000mAh rechargeable battery
- Officially rated for up to 540 days in low-activity scenarios
- Approximately 10 minutes of sunlight per day can replenish the power used in low-activity scenarios
Practical benefits of Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0
Wireless connectivity supports 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6), dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz, WPA3 encryption, and Bluetooth 5.0. Bluetooth is used for initial pairing: simply bring your phone close to the camera to connect and configure it, without first relying on buttons or inserting a card.
The main benefits of Wi-Fi 6 on a battery camera are “faster uploads and shorter wake-up times,” which indirectly helps save power. It also offers better interference resistance than older generations, providing a more stable connection in Hong Kong’s dense residential Wi-Fi environments. 5GHz is suitable for high-bitrate connections over short distances, while 2.4GHz is better for penetrating walls.
- Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) Dual-Band
- WPA3 Encryption
- Bluetooth 5.0 Nearby Pairing
512GB microSD, pre-recording, and continuous recording
It supports up to 512GB microSD, an unusually large capacity for a battery camera. The official specifications list three recording modes: continuous recording, motion-triggered recording, and pre-recording (10 seconds by default, adjustable from 2-10 seconds; 3fps by default, adjustable to 1/3/5fps).
The value of pre-recording is that it captures footage from the few seconds before an event occurs. When investigating “which direction a person came from,” those few seconds are often more useful than the event itself. If you plan to enable continuous recording, first make sure the power supply, such as the solar panel, can keep up.
- microSD up to 512GB
- Pre-recording adjustable from 2-10 seconds
- Supports continuous recording and scheduled recording
IP66 and -20°C operating temperature
Officially rated IP66: completely dustproof and resistant to powerful water jets, making it the highest-rated for protection among this batch of cameras (most of the others are IP65). This means it is better equipped than typical outdoor cameras to handle Hong Kong’s heavy rain and humidity.
Operating temperature: -20°C to 55°C; humidity: 20%-85%; dimensions: 126×78×76mm; weight: 554g. More compact than typical bullet cameras, offering more installation options.
- IP66 dustproof and resistant to powerful water jets
- 126×78×76mm/554g
- Operating temperature: -20°C to 55°C
PIR detection and smart home integration
PIR detection distance adjustable up to 10 meters, with a 100° horizontal angle, supporting person, vehicle, and animal classification detection. As it does not have infrared, nighttime detection accuracy relies more on the PIR sensor itself. We recommend setting the sensitivity to a medium level, observing it for a week, and then making adjustments.
Supports Google Assistant, Alexa, and Reolink Home Hub; cloud backup requires Reolink Cloud (availability varies by region). If you plan to use Home Hub for centralized storage, this camera is officially confirmed to be supported.
- PIR 10 meters/100°
- Supports Home Hub
- Google Assistant/Alexa

Frequently Asked Questions
Why doesn't Altas have infrared night vision? Can it really see at night?
The official specifications clearly state that infrared is not supported. Instead, it uses a 1/1.8" sensor and an F1.0 aperture to deliver full-color night vision. It can see in environments with streetlights, porch lights, or moonlight, and colors will be visible. In places with absolutely no light, the image will be darker, so a model with infrared should be chosen for such locations.
What is the biggest difference between Altas and Altas PT Ultra?
The resolution and pan/tilt functionality. Altas has a 4MP fixed lens, IP66 protection, and weighs 554g; PT Ultra offers 4K 8MP resolution, a 355°/90° pan/tilt mechanism with automatic tracking, IP65 protection, and weighs 853g. Both use a 1/1.8" sensor, have a 20000mAh battery and support up to 512GB, and neither has infrared.
Is the 18-month battery life really achievable?
The official claim is based on "motion detection mode, recording 300 seconds per day." It can approach this figure in low-activity locations, such as a back door that few people pass by; dozens of triggers every day would make it impossible. This is official data under specific conditions, not a general guarantee.
Can it record continuously 24 hours a day?
The camera officially supports continuous recording, but the battery cannot sustain long periods of continuous recording. It must be paired with Solar Panel 2 or have stable sunlight. For everyday use, triggered recording with pre-recording is recommended.
Without infrared, is the PIR still accurate?
PIR is heat-based detection independent of the camera lens, and is separate from infrared illumination, so detection can still work at night. However, without infrared illumination, the brightness of nighttime recordings depends on the available light.
Does IP66 mean it can be submerged in water?
No. IP66 means complete dust protection and protection against powerful water jets; it still cannot be submerged or left in water for extended periods. Positioning the ports downward and adding waterproof tape is the basic precaution.
Would a 512GB card be wasteful?
If you use continuous recording or want to retain long periods of footage, 512GB is worthwhile. If you only use triggered recording, 128GB is sufficient.
Does it support Home Hub?
Yes. The official specifications state: Home Hub Compatibility: Supported. This differs from Altas Go PT (4G version), which does not support it.
Is Wi-Fi 6 noticeably different in practice?
Yes. It provides faster uploads and shorter wake-up times, which indirectly saves power. It also offers better interference resistance than older generations in densely populated residential environments.
What should I pay attention to regarding the bracket and installation?
At 554g, it is not particularly heavy, and standard wall anchors and screws are generally sufficient. However, if installing it on metal or thin panels, adding a backing plate for reinforcement is recommended. Point the lens downward and avoid prolonged direct exposure to the afternoon sun from the west.
