The Reolink NVS8-5MD4 is another 5MP kit in the NVS8 series, featuring dome-style cameras. The 8-channel NVR has a built-in 2TB hard drive and comes with four 5MP PoE dome cameras and four 18-meter PoE network cables.

Dome cameras are more discreet than bullet cameras, with the lens concealed inside the dome. They are less conspicuous when installed on ceilings or indoor walls, and are also harder to push out of position — which is why they are commonly used in shops, indoor corridors, and elevator lobbies.

Practical Benefits of the Dome Design

The lens of a dome camera is concealed inside the dome, giving it a more discreet appearance. Unlike a bullet camera, it does not immediately reveal which direction it is pointing. This visual difference is highly practical in shops and indoor corridors.

Another benefit is resistance to tampering: bullet cameras can easily be knocked out of alignment with a long stick, while the dome structure makes it harder to change the camera angle. When installed outdoors, be sure to watch out for reflections and dust buildup on the dome.

5MP Image Quality and PoE Installation

5MP provides 2K+ image quality, which is sufficient for identifying faces and movements at indoor distances of 5–8 meters. Dome cameras generally use wider-angle lenses, providing more complete indoor coverage.

PoE installation requires only a single network cable running back to the NVR. For indoor installations, the cable can be routed through the ceiling or trunking; if it passes through a wall to the outdoors, the connection must be waterproofed.

24/7 Continuous Recording and AI Detection

The NVR supports 24/7 continuous recording, motion-triggered recording, and scheduled recording. The value of continuous recording is that footage from before an event occurs is also saved, which is important for reviewing incidents afterward.
