8MP Image Quality and Lens

The P437 is officially rated at 3840x2160 (8MP) @25fps, with an f=2.7-13.5mm lens and a maximum aperture of F1.6.

The field of view is horizontal 100°-31° / vertical 55°-17° / diagonal 123°-39°. This is a standard lens design: the narrower the viewing angle, the clearer distant details will be, but the smaller the area covered at once; the wider the viewing angle, the larger the coverage, at the cost of greater edge distortion and less sharp distant details.

In practice, measure the distance from the installation point to the target first, then decide whether to mount the camera higher or lower. With the same lens, the actual ground coverage can differ significantly when mounted at 2.8 meters versus 3.5 meters.

Infrared Night Vision and Color Night Vision

P437 infrared night vision: up to 30 meters (100ft); 4 infrared LEDs / 2.8W / 850nm.

Color night vision: supported, with 2 spotlights / 3.2W / 6500K / 400 lumens. Infrared images are black and white, making them discreet and less likely to disturb passers-by. Color night vision uses spotlights for illumination and can retain color information such as clothing and vehicle body colors when needed, which is practically useful for identification after an incident.

During installation, avoid pointing the lens directly at a white wall or metal canopy. Otherwise, reflected infrared light may cause overexposure in the center of the image while making the surroundings difficult to see. If this cannot be avoided, tilting the camera downward by 10 to 15 degrees usually provides a noticeable improvement.

Smart Detection and Notifications

The P437 supports person, vehicle, animal, and motion detection. Detection is processed on the camera, and notifications are sent only when the specified target categories are detected. This filters out common sources of false alerts from traditional motion detection, such as rain, swaying tree shadows, and changing lights.

Notifications can be enabled or disabled individually. If you want to receive person alerts but do not want to be woken by cats or dogs at night, simply turn off animal detection notifications; recording will continue as usual. Settings can be adjusted for each camera in the Reolink App.

When used with microSD or NVR recording, you can tap directly into the relevant clip when a notification arrives, without manually dragging along the timeline.

PoE Power and Network Connection

P437 power specifications: IEEE 802.3af, 48V Active. A single network cable provides both power and video transmission, so no separate power cable or socket is required at the camera location. This is the cleanest solution for locations such as exterior walls, ceilings, and village-house rooftops where a network cable is available but no power outlet is present.

The network interface is 1× 10M/100Mbps RJ45. Power can be supplied by a PoE-compatible Reolink NVR or a standalone PoE Switch (which must comply with the standards listed above).

The practical benefit of a wired connection is stable bandwidth: wireless cameras may experience frame drops and delays when multiple people are viewing live footage simultaneously or when there is heavy interference from nearby Wi-Fi networks, whereas PoE does not.

Storage, Playback and Backup

P437 storage options: microSD up to 256GB; compatible with Reolink NVR.

The microSD option is suitable for scenarios requiring only a few days of retention and primarily involving a single camera. The NVR option is suitable for multiple cameras, retention of several weeks, or reviewing footage from multiple angles at once. Both can be used together: microSD as backup and NVR as the primary storage.

We recommend using a surveillance-grade microSD card with high write endurance and resistance to high and low temperatures. Standard phone cards can easily fail after several months of continuous writing, usually without warning.

App, Two-Way Talk and Remote Viewing

P437 audio: built-in microphone and speaker (supports two-way audio).

In the Reolink App, press and hold the talk button to speak to people on-site. This is useful for receiving packages at the door, reminding customers at a shop, or asking someone to move a vehicle from a parking space.

Remote viewing is available through the Reolink App (iOS / Android). The same account can add multiple cameras and supports split-screen viewing. You can also create sub-accounts with viewing-only permissions, without access to change settings or delete recordings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PoE? What additional equipment do I need?
PoE means Power over Ethernet: a single LAN cable transmits both power and video. This model uses the IEEE 802.3af, 48V Active power standard, so you need a power source that complies with this standard: a PoE-compatible Reolink NVR or a standalone PoE switch. The camera itself does not include a power adapter.
What is the main difference between the P437 and P430?
According to the official specifications, there is mainly 1 difference: the lens (f=2.7-13.5mm, max. F1.6 vs. f=2.7-13.5mm). The other specifications are similar. When choosing, first consider whether you need fixed wide-angle coverage or adjustable focus for targeting distant subjects, then decide based on your power supply budget.
How should I choose? Is there a simple rule of thumb?
Classify by installation distance: If you need to cover an entire wall within 3 meters → choose a fixed wide-angle model (P430); if you need to identify license plates or faces from 5 to 15 meters → choose a model with optical zoom (P437/P430/P434/P850); if you need 360° patrol coverage → choose a PTZ model. These three types should not be compared solely by price, because they solve different problems.
Do I have to run a network cable? Can I use Wi-Fi?
This is a PoE wired model and does not support Wi-Fi. Its advantages are a stable connection, no dropped frames, and no need to find a power outlet at the camera location; the limitation is that the installation point must be reachable by a network cable. If it is genuinely impossible to run a cable to the installation location, choose a Wi-Fi or 4G model from the same series instead.
Is the night vision actually clear?
The official specifications state that infrared night vision reaches up to 30 meters (100ft); there are 4 infrared LEDs / 2.8W / 850nm. Full-color night vision is supported, with 2 spotlights / 3.2W / 6500K / 400 lumens. Actual image clarity depends on the ambient lighting conditions. In complete darkness, the image will be black-and-white infrared footage. Avoid pointing the lens directly at a white wall or metal surface to reduce reflective overexposure.
How long can recordings be retained? Is there a monthly fee?
This model supports microSD storage up to 256GB; it can also be paired with a Reolink NVR, with no monthly fee required. Retention time depends on the card/hard drive capacity, resolution, and recording mode (continuous or motion-triggered). For long-term storage, we recommend pairing it with an NVR and using a surveillance-grade hard drive.
Does this camera support two-way talk?
Yes. The official specifications list the audio as “built-in microphone and speaker (supports two-way audio).” In the App, press and hold the talk button to speak to people at the site.
How wide is the camera’s field of view? What type of installation location is it suitable for?
The official field of view is Horizontal 100°-31° / Vertical 55°-17° / Diagonal 123°-39°. This model has a varifocal lens (5x optical zoom), allowing you to adjust the viewing angle according to the distance and cover both near and far targets. Before installation, we recommend measuring the distance from the installation point to the target, then deciding on the mounting height and angle.
Is this Hong Kong authorized stock? How many years of warranty are included?
This is Hong Kong authorized stock and comes with a local warranty certificate and a 2-year warranty. Non-Hong Kong authorized stock generally comes with seller-only warranty coverage; repairs must be shipped back to the country of origin, with the time and shipping costs borne by the customer.
Overseas parallel imports are cheaper. Are they worth buying?
We do not recommend them. Overseas versions may differ from Hong Kong versions in voltage, plugs, App regional services, and warranty coverage, and there may be no local support if problems arise. We only guarantee Hong Kong authorized stock; versions shipped from overseas warehouses (Australia, the UK, Germany, Singapore, Canada, the US, Malaysia, France, Dubai) are not covered by our warranty.

Want to confirm whether this model is suitable for your installation environment?

Send us a photo of the installation location or a floor plan. Based on the site conditions, we can recommend the number of cameras, power supply method, and cable length to help you avoid purchasing the wrong specifications.
