Product Overview
The RP-PCT8MD uses two lenses to create a seamless 180° panoramic view: 5120×1552 resolution (8MP), 30fps, 1/2.65" sensors, and 2.8mm F1.6 lenses on each side. Its key advantage is that one camera replaces two—covering an entire wall or corridor without a black stitching border in the middle.
All specifications on this page have been extracted field by field from the specifications table on Reolink’s official product page: H 180°/V 60° field of view, 30m infrared (3 × 3W 850nm), full-color illumination with 3 × 3.5W 4000K 400-lumen lights, PoE 802.3af, DC 12V 2A (<12W), microSD up to 512GB, IP67, -30°C~+55°C, 132×131×72mm/775g.
One thing to note about panoramic cameras is pixel distribution: 5120 pixels are spread horizontally across 180°, which equals approximately 28 pixels per degree—slightly lower than the approximately 36 pixels per degree of a single-lens 4K camera covering 105°. Therefore, its strength is viewing the overall scene and tracking movement, rather than identifying faces at a distance.

180° Stitching and “One Camera Replacing Two”
The traditional approach is to use two cameras covering 90° each, relying on software stitching in the middle or simply accepting a blind spot. The RP-PCT8MD stitches images from two lenses within the same camera body. It is calibrated at the factory, so there are no black borders or misalignment in the middle of the image.
There are three practical benefits: installation requires only one mounting position and one network cable; recordings are stored in a single file, so there is no need to align timelines during playback; and there is no overlapping coverage wasted between two cameras. For long, narrow spaces such as corridors and back alleys, it is significantly more efficient than using two cameras.
- Factory-Calibrated with No Black Borders
- One Network Cable, One File
- Highest Efficiency for Long, Narrow Spaces
Pixel Distribution: The Trade-Offs of a Panoramic Camera
5120 pixels are spread horizontally across 180°, resulting in approximately 28 pixels per degree; a single-lens 4K camera spreads 3840 pixels across 105°, resulting in approximately 36 pixels per degree. The difference is around 25%, meaning that distant details are slightly less clear with a panoramic camera.
Therefore, the usage strategy is different: use the panoramic camera to get an overview and track movement. For locations where detailed identification is required, such as entrances and checkout counters, an additional varifocal or 12MP camera should still be installed. This is a common combination in professional installations, rather than expecting one panoramic camera to handle every task.
- Slightly Fewer Pixels per Degree than Single-Lens 4K
- Excels at Panoramic Coverage and Movement Tracking
- Add Another Camera for Detailed Areas
30fps and Dual-Lens Synchronization
The main stream supports 2-25fps (25fps by default), and the official specifications also indicate 30fps capability. Dual-lens stitching requires precise synchronization: if the two lenses are not synchronized, a moving person may appear misaligned as a “half person” at the centerline.
Such issues are usually addressed during factory calibration, so users only need to ensure that the firmware is updated to the official version. If obvious misalignment appears at the centerline, update the firmware first before determining whether it is a hardware issue.
- Dual Lenses Require Precise Time Synchronization
- Update the Firmware First if Misalignment Occurs
- Official 30fps Capability
Infrared and Full-Color Configuration
The 30m infrared range is provided by 3 × 3W 850nm LEDs, while full-color illumination comes from 3 × 3.5W 4000K 400-lumen lights. The higher number of LEDs compared with a single-lens camera is necessary to cover the wide 180° field of view.
Practical note: when the panoramic camera is installed in a corner, the infrared lights on both sides may illuminate the adjacent walls and create hot spots. Positioning the camera slightly away from the wall (5-10 cm) during installation can reduce reflections.
- 3 IR LEDs for Wide-Angle Coverage
- 400lm Full-Color Illumination for Short-Range Lighting
- Mount away from the wall to reduce glare
Storage and Bitrate
Main Stream 3072-10240Kbps (default 8192Kbps), Sub Stream 256-2048Kbps. Based on continuous recording at the default settings, this uses approximately 85-90GB per day — similar to a 12MP single-lens camera.
One hidden advantage of a panoramic camera is that “one camera only produces one set of streams”: if two 4K cameras are used to cover the same area, the combined bitrate will be double. From a storage and bandwidth perspective, a panoramic camera is more efficient.
- Approximately 85-90GB per day at the default bitrate
- Uses less bandwidth than two 4K cameras
- Recommended to pair with an NVR or use event recording
Installation Location and Height
The optimal location is a corner or the centre of a flat wall, at a height of 2.5-3 metres, with the camera level. If installed too high (above 4 metres), the 180° view becomes a downward-facing fan shape, showing a large area of ground nearby while compressing the distant view.
IP67, -30°C~+55°C, 775g. As the camera body is relatively wide (132mm), leave sufficient space on both sides during installation to avoid obstructing the edges of the lens view.
- Corner or centre of the wall
- Recommended height: 2.5-3 metres
- Leave space on both sides

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 180° stitched or single-lens wide-angle?
Dual-lens stitching, factory-calibrated with no black seam in the middle. Resolution: 5120×1552.
Can it clearly capture faces 20 meters away?
Not recommended to expect this. Panoramic cameras have fewer pixels per degree and excel at panoramic views and tracking movement. For facial recognition, add a single-lens or zoom camera.
How does it compare with two 4K cameras?
Only one installation point and one network cable are required, recordings consist of a single file, and there is only one bitrate; the trade-off is slightly less detail at a distance.
What is the infrared range?
30 meters(3 × 3W 850nm); full-color: 3 × 3.5W, 400 lumens.
Can it connect to an NVR?
Yes, it supports Reolink NVR and FTP.
What is the power consumption?
Officially rated below 12W; supports PoE 802.3af or DC 12V 2A.
Does it have alarm inputs and outputs?
No(officially marked N/A).
What should I do if the center line is misaligned?
First update the firmware to the official version. If it is still misaligned, it may be a calibration or hardware issue. Please contact us for assistance.
What is the recommended installation height?
2.5-3 meters, with the camera body level; installing it too high will compress the image due to the downward viewing angle.
Warranty?
Hong Kong authorized product with a 2-year manufacturer warranty.
Should one or two cameras be installed for a corridor?
Tell us the length and width of the corridor, and we’ll help you compare the coverage and cost of one panoramic camera versus two single-lens cameras.
