Product Overview

The RP-PCB8MX is designed for "full-color night vision": a 1/1.8" large-format sensor, F1.0 large aperture, 4mm fixed lens, 93.2° field of view, and 4K 8MP @30fps, with a body measuring 76×74×220mm and weighing 756g.

The most counterintuitive point is that the official specifications clearly list infrared night vision as "N/A" — this camera has no infrared lights. The reason is simple: its large aperture and large sensor allow sufficient light intake in low-light conditions, relying on "not amplifying noise" rather than "adding illumination."

All specifications on this page were extracted field by field from the specification table on Reolink's official product page: 4 full-color spotlights, 0-4W adjustable, 4000K, 600 lumens; PoE 802.3af; DC 12V 2A (<15W); alarm 1 input and 1 output; microSD up to 512GB; IP67; -30°C~+55°C.

What Do F1.0 and 1/1.8" Mean?

The smaller the aperture value, the more light enters. F1.0 lets in approximately 2.5 times more light than the commonly seen F1.6 ((1.6/1.0)² ≈ 2.56); combined with a 1/1.8" sensor (approximately twice the area of a 1/2.7" sensor), its overall low-light performance is significantly improved.

The result is that in environments with only faint street lighting, the image still retains color, making clothing and vehicle colors identifiable; by comparison, typical F1.6 models can only produce black-and-white infrared footage in the same conditions. This makes a very practical difference for "post-event identification" — color is often a crucial clue.

  • F1.0 captures approximately 2.5 times more light than F1.6
  • Large sensor reduces noise
  • Color remains visible under faint lighting

Will the Lack of Infrared Lights Be a Problem?

The official specifications clearly list infrared night vision as N/A. This means that in "completely dark" environments (such as rural areas without streetlights or indoor spaces with the lights turned off), it will not automatically switch to black-and-white night vision like an infrared camera. Instead, it relies on faint ambient light and its spotlights.

The way to decide is simple: Is there street lighting, corridor lighting, or reflected light from nearby buildings at night where you plan to install it? If so, the F1.0 model will generally perform better than an infrared model; if it is completely dark, choose a model with infrared (such as the RP-PCB8M). This is an essential point to confirm before purchasing.

  • Not suitable for completely dark environments
  • Performs better with faint ambient light
  • Choose an infrared model for completely dark environments

The Trade-Offs of a 93.2° Field of View

The field of view is 93.2° (horizontal)/48.2° (vertical)/111.6° (diagonal), slightly narrower than the 105° of the 8MP model in the same series, in exchange for a more concentrated image and less edge distortion.

Combined with 4K, the 93.2° field of view provides excellent identification performance at distances of 10-15 meters; if you need wider coverage (such as two adjacent parking spaces), you may need to install two cameras or switch to the 105° RP-PCB8M.

  • Narrower field of view but less distortion
  • Excellent identification at 10-15 meters
  • Consider the PCB8M for wider coverage

Alarm I/O and AI Detection

Alarm 1 input and 1 output (12V/1A input, 12V/10mA output), supporting motion, person, vehicle, and animal detection, perimeter protection, AI video search, and people counting.

The alarm output is particularly effective when paired with a full-color model: person detected → triggers an external siren or flashing light → full-color light turns on simultaneously. This "see and be seen" combination provides a noticeably stronger deterrent effect than recording alone.

  • Connects to sirens and door contacts
  • Full-color + alarm combination delivers strong deterrence
  • Supports people counting

Power Consumption and PoE Planning

Officially rated PoE 802.3af (48V Active), DC 12V 2A, and power consumption <15W. Slightly higher than fixed-lens 8MP cameras (<12W) because the full-color spotlights and large sensor consume more power.

805.3af has a maximum of 15.4W per port, leaving only approximately 0.4W of headroom—meaning it is "just" within the 802.3af limit. For multi-camera systems, calculate the combined total power consumption rather than assuming every port has spare capacity.

  • Power consumption <15W, close to the 802.3af limit
  • Calculate the combined total power for multiple cameras
  • Use an 802.3at switch when necessary

Installation and Cleaning

756g, 76×74×220mm, IP67, -30°C~+55°C. The mounting surface must be stable; point the connectors downward and apply waterproof tape. For unobstructed exterior walls, a junction box (Junction Box B10) is recommended.

Large-aperture lenses are highly sensitive to stains on the lens surface: even a small fingerprint can cause halos at night. Avoid touching the lens surface during installation and gently wipe it with a soft cloth for routine cleaning.

  • Stains on the lens surface can cause halos at night
  • Do not touch the lens surface during installation
  • Add a junction box for unobstructed exterior walls

The following is the packaging content for Hong Kong authorized stock. Actual accessories are subject to the shipment batch; if you have any questions, please confirm with us before placing your order.

  • Specification source: Reolink official product page specification table (extracted field by field). The official specifications list infrared night vision as N/A (no infrared lights). For completely dark environments, please choose an infrared model instead.
  • The package contents are subject to Reolink's official shipping configuration. The official product page does not disclose the in-box contents item by item, and our store does not speculate on the quantity of accessories. If you need to confirm a specific accessory before placing an order (such as the bracket, screw pack, or whether a power supply is included), please contact us first.
  • Hong Kong authorized stock, 2-year original manufacturer warranty, and local support.

FAQ

Why is there no infrared light?
The official specifications list infrared night vision as N/A. The design relies on the F1.0 large aperture and 1/1.8" large sensor to capture color images in low light, rather than emitting infrared light.
Can it be used in complete darkness?
Not recommended. Without infrared lights, it relies solely on the spotlight in complete darkness; for pitch-black environments, choose the RP-PCB8M with infrared or the zoom version.
What are the benefits of F1.0?
It captures approximately 2.5 times more light than F1.6. Combined with the large sensor, it delivers color images with less noise at night.
What is the field of view?
H 93.2°/V 48.2°/D 111.6°, slightly narrower than the 105° model in the same series but with less distortion.
How does it differ from the RP-PCB8M?
PCB8M: 2.8mm F1.6, 105°, 25fps, with 30m IR; PCB8MX: 4mm F1.0, 93.2°, 30fps, no IR but full-color night vision, and alarm I/O.
What is the power consumption?
Officially rated below 15W, which is close to the 802.3af per-port limit. For multi-camera systems, the total power consumption must be calculated.
What are the alarm input/output specifications?
1 input (12V/1A), 1 output (12V/10mA); a relay is required for high-power loads.

Is your installation location bright enough at night?

Tell us whether there are streetlights or corridor lights at the location at night, and we can help determine whether F1.0 full-color night vision is suitable or whether an IR model would be better.
