Product Overview

The Reolink Go Ranger PT is a 4G pan-tilt camera in the Go series designed for “outdoor, agricultural and forestry environments.” It features 4K 8MP resolution, 355° panoramic coverage, 940nm no-glow infrared LEDs, and animal detection (identifying categories such as deer and turkeys). Its key selling point is that it emits no visible red glow at night, making it less likely to disturb wildlife or attract attention.

Official Resolution3840×2160 (8 megapixels) @15fpswith a 1/3" CMOS sensor, a diagonal field of view of 110°, horizontal field of view of 90°, vertical field of view of 47°, and dual H.264/H.265 encoding. The pan-tilt range is 355° horizontally and 140° vertically. The official specifications state support for up to 64 preset positions (while other models in the same series generally support 32).

Image Quality, Lens and Field of View

A 1/3" CMOS sensor delivers 4K output, with a horizontal field of view of 90° and a vertical field of view of 47°. Compared with 4K cameras using 1/2.7" sensors, the 1/3" sensor performs slightly worse in low-light conditions, while daytime detail is comparable. This is the manufacturer's trade-off between size, cost and night-vision spectrum.

Both H.264 and H.265 are supported. The main and sub streams support 10-15fps (15fps by default), with a main-stream bitrate of 1024-4096Kbps (2048Kbps by default) and a sub-stream bitrate of 64-672Kbps. When using 4G, selecting H.265 can significantly reduce data usage.

4G Connectivity and Network Performance

Built-in 4G LTE supports the official frequency-band lists for the European, American and Australian versions. Simply insert a SIM card to use it, with no on-site Wi-Fi or network cable required. It supports up to 12 simultaneous viewers (2 main streams + 10 sub-streams), allowing multiple users to share access.

Signal strength in outdoor areas is usually weaker than in urban areas, which is the biggest variable for 4G cameras in agricultural and forestry environments. Before installation, we recommend testing on-site with a mobile phone using the same carrier. If the signal is unstable, adding an external antenna or mounting the camera higher may usually improve reception.

  • 4G LTE Plug-and-Play SIM Card Support

Power Supply, Battery and Solar Charging

This store's version includes the Reolink Solar Panel 2 (6W). This is the biggest purchasing difference compared with other Go series models: no additional solar panel is required. The official specifications do not list the battery capacity, so we do not speculate on the actual mAh or Wh figures.

Power is supplied via USB Type-C. Solar panels are particularly beneficial in outdoor environments: they reduce the need for battery replacement visits, which also minimizes disturbance to wildlife and crops. During installation, face the panel south (in Hong Kong) and avoid shade from trees, as this can make a significant difference to efficiency.

Night Vision, Detection and Alerts

The infrared system uses 8 × 1.2W 940nm LEDs with an effective range of 10 meters. The biggest difference between 940nm and the more common 850nm is that 940nm produces no visible red glow: 850nm LEDs emit a faint red glow from the lens at night, while 940nm is almost invisible, making it more suitable for wildlife and locations where discretion is important. The trade-off is that 940nm illumination is slightly less efficient, so the image may be somewhat darker than with 850nm.

Smart detection supports PIR, person, vehicle and animal detection, as well as animal identification (the official specifications state that it can identify categories such as stags, does and turkeys). This is the Ranger series' main differentiating feature, making it suitable for farms, orchards and woodland monitoring.

  • 10m Infrared, 940nm No-Glow (8 LEDs)

Storage, App and Smart Home

Supports microSD cards up to 128GB. In outdoor environments, it is usually not practical to remove the card frequently. We recommend using a 128GB card and regularly downloading important clips through the App to prevent them from being overwritten when the card is full.

The App supports live viewing, pan-tilt control, preset positions, playback, two-way audio and push notifications, and is compatible with Google Assistant. The official specifications state support for 1 administrator account and up to 12 simultaneous streams.

  • microSD up to 128GB

Installation, Protection and Maintenance

The official waterproofing designation is Weatherproof: YES, with no IP rating specified. We accurately state that “the official specifications do not provide a numerical rating” and will not assign it an IP66 or IP65 rating. The camera should still be installed away from direct exposure to rain at the ports, with waterproof tape applied for added protection.

Officially listed dimensions: Ø98×122mm; weight: 496g (including battery); operating temperature: -10°C to 55°C; humidity: 10%-90%. Similar in size to the Go PT Ultra, and the mounting brackets are interchangeable.

  • Officially marked Weatherproof (no IP rating specified)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the biggest difference between the Go Ranger PT and Go PT Ultra?
The infrared spectrum and recognition features. The Ranger uses 940nm no-glow infrared with 8 LEDs and supports animal recognition, with up to 64 preset positions; the Go PT Ultra uses 850nm infrared with a spotlight. Both offer 4K 8MP, a 355°/140° pan/tilt range, and an IP64-rated housing, but the Ranger has a 1/3" sensor, while the Ultra has a 1/2.7" sensor.
What are the benefits of 940nm infrared?
The camera’s red glow is almost invisible at night, making it more suitable for wildlife and locations where discretion is important. The trade-off is slightly lower illumination efficiency than 850nm, so the image may appear somewhat darker.
Does the package really include a solar panel?
Yes. Our store sells the “Go Ranger PT + Solar Panel 2” version, which includes a 6W solar panel. If you only need the camera, please contact us first to confirm whether a camera-only version is available.
Can it record continuously 24 hours a day?
No. The official recording mode is triggered recording, with video, photos, or both available. For 24/7 continuous recording, please choose a PoE model instead.
The battery capacity is not listed officially. How can I estimate the runtime?
It is indeed not listed by the manufacturer. In practice, a 6W solar panel combined with a dozen or so triggers per day can usually keep the camera operating. If triggers occur very frequently or sunlight is insufficient, regular charging will be required. We will not speculate on an mAh figure.
How accurate is the animal recognition?
The manufacturer states that it can identify categories such as bucks, does, and turkeys. Actual accuracy depends on the distance, lighting, and size of the animal. If your primary target is a large animal, we recommend installing the camera within 5-8 m of a route the animal frequently uses.
What is the waterproof rating?
The manufacturer only states “Weatherproof: YES” and does not provide an IP rating. We list it accurately without filling in an assumed number. The camera should still be installed with the ports facing downward and waterproof tape applied.

Would you like to confirm whether the Ranger’s 940nm infrared and animal recognition features suit your needs?

Tell us the installation location—orchard, woodland, or farm—the target animal, and the approximate distance. We can help you decide whether to add a second camera or use the TrackMix series for long-range coverage.
