Product Overview

The P850 is a wired network camera in Reolink’s PoE range. It offers an official resolution of 3840x2160 (8MP) @25fps, with an f=5.3-86mm lens and a maximum aperture of F1.6. It is designed as a fixed-installation solution where “one network cable handles both power and video”, so no separate power socket is needed at the camera location and there is no frame dropping caused by wireless interference.

All specifications on this page are taken from the Specifications table on Reolink’s official product page, without estimation or conversion. For items not specified by the manufacturer (such as the enclosure protection rating of certain models), we will not add information ourselves and will indicate this below.

If you are unsure how many cameras you need or whether an NVR is required, send us your floor plan or on-site photos before placing your order, and we will provide recommendations based on the actual environment.

8MP Image Quality and Lens

The P850 has an official resolution of 3840x2160 (8MP) @25fps, with an f=5.3-86mm lens and a maximum aperture of F1.6.

The field of view is Horizontal 54.2°-3.6° / Vertical 41.7°-2.1°. This range is designed for versatility: with the same lens, a narrower angle provides clearer distant details but covers a smaller area at once; a wider angle covers a larger area, at the cost of greater edge distortion and less-defined distant details.

In practice, first measure the distance between the installation point and the target, then decide whether to mount the camera higher or lower. With the same camera, mounting it at 2.8 meters versus 3.5 meters can result in a significant difference in the actual ground area covered.

Infrared Night Vision and Full-Color Night Vision

The P850’s infrared night vision reaches up to 80 meters (260ft); it uses 7 infrared LEDs / maximum 5.5W / 850nm.

Full-color night vision: supported, with 2 spotlights / 4W / 4000K (adjustable). Infrared footage is in black and white, offering the benefits of discretion and not startling passers-by. Full-color night vision uses spotlights for illumination, preserving color information such as clothing and vehicle colors when needed, which can be practically helpful for identification afterward.

During installation, avoid pointing the lens directly at a white wall or metal awning, as reflected infrared light may cause overexposure in the center of the image and make the surrounding areas difficult to see. If this cannot be avoided, tilting the camera downward by 10 to 15 degrees will usually provide a noticeable improvement.

Smart Detection and Notifications

The P850 supports person, vehicle, animal, and motion detection. Detection is processed on the camera, and notifications are pushed only when a target category is identified, filtering out common false triggers associated with traditional motion detection, such as rain, moving tree shadows, and changes in lighting.

Notifications can be enabled or disabled individually. If you want to receive person alerts but do not want to be woken up by cats or dogs at night, simply turn off animal detection notifications; recording will continue as usual. Settings can be adjusted for each camera in the Reolink App.

When used with microSD or NVR recording, you can tap the notification directly to view the relevant clip without manually dragging along the timeline.

PoE Power and Network Connection

P850 power specifications: IEEE 802.3at, 48V Active. A single network cable provides both power and video transmission, so no separate power cable or socket is required at the camera location. This is the cleanest solution for locations such as exterior walls, ceilings, and village-house rooftops where there is a network connection but no power outlet.

The network interface is 1× 10M/100Mbps RJ45. Power can be supplied by a PoE-enabled Reolink NVR or a standalone PoE Switch (which must comply with the standards listed above).

The practical benefit of a wired connection is stable bandwidth: wireless cameras may experience frame drops and latency when multiple people are viewing live footage at the same time or when there is heavy interference from nearby Wi-Fi networks, whereas PoE does not.

Storage, Playback and Backup

P850 storage options: microSD up to 256GB; compatible with Reolink NVRs.

The microSD option is suitable for scenarios where only a few days of footage need to be retained and a single camera is the main focus. An NVR is better suited for multiple cameras, retaining footage for several weeks, or reviewing clips from multiple angles at once. Both can be used together: microSD as a backup and the NVR as the primary storage.

We recommend using a surveillance-grade microSD card (designed for high write endurance and resistance to high and low temperatures). Standard phone memory cards can easily fail after several months of continuous writing, and they typically fail without warning.

App, Two-Way Talk and Remote Viewing

P850 audio: built-in microphone and speaker (supports two-way audio).

In the Reolink App, press and hold the talk button to speak to people on-site. This is useful for receiving packages at the door, giving customers instructions at a shop, or asking someone to move a vehicle from a parking space.

Remote viewing is available through the Reolink App (iOS/Android). Multiple cameras can be added to the same account, with split-screen viewing supported. You can also create sub-accounts with viewing-only permissions, without allowing users to change settings or delete recordings.

Frequently asked questions

What is PoE? What equipment do I need to buy separately?
PoE means "Power over Ethernet": a single LAN cable transmits both power and video. This model uses the IEEE 802.3at, 48V Active power standard, so you need a power source that meets this standard: a PoE-supported Reolink NVR or a standalone PoE Switch. The camera itself does not include a power supply.
What is the biggest difference between the P850 and P437?
There are 3 main differences in the official specifications: lens (f=5.3-86mm, max. F1.6 vs. f=2.7-13.5mm, max. F1.6); zoom (16x optical zoom vs. 5x optical zoom); and power standard (IEEE 802.3at, 48V Active vs. IEEE 802.3af, 48V Active). The remaining specifications of the two models are similar. When choosing, first consider whether you need “fixed wide-angle coverage” or “adjustable focus for distant targets,” then decide based on your power supply budget.
Which one should I choose? Is there a simple rule of thumb?
Choose based on installation distance: within 3 meters, if you need to cover an entire wall → choose a fixed wide-angle model (P437); at 5 to 15 meters, if you need to identify license plates or faces → choose a model with optical zoom (P850/P437/P430/P434); if you need 360° patrol monitoring → choose a pan-tilt model. These three types should not be compared purely by price, as they are designed to solve different problems.
Do I have to run an Ethernet cable? Can I use Wi-Fi?
This is a wired PoE model and does not support Wi-Fi. Its advantages are a stable connection with no dropped frames, and no need to find a power outlet at the camera location; the limitation is that the installation point must be within reach of an Ethernet cable. If it is genuinely impossible to run a cable to the installation location, choose a Wi-Fi or 4G model from the same series instead.
How clear is the night vision in actual use?
The official specifications state infrared night vision up to 80 meters (260ft); 7 infrared LEDs / max. 5.5W / 850nm; and full-color night vision support, with 2 spotlights / 4W / 4000K (adjustable). Actual image clarity depends on the ambient lighting conditions. In complete darkness, the image will be black-and-white infrared footage. Avoid pointing the lens directly at white walls or metal surfaces to reduce reflective overexposure.
How long can recordings be retained? Is a monthly fee required?
This model supports microSD storage up to 256GB; it can also be used with a Reolink NVR, with no monthly fee required. Retention time depends on the card/hard drive capacity, resolution, and recording mode (continuous or motion-triggered only). For long-term storage, we recommend using an NVR with a surveillance-grade hard drive.
Does this camera support two-way talk?
Yes. The official specifications list “built-in microphone and speaker (two-way audio supported).” Press and hold the talk button in the App to speak to people at the site.
How wide is the lens’s field of view? What type of installation location is it suitable for?
The official viewing angles are horizontal 54.2°-3.6° / vertical 41.7°-2.1°. This model features a zoom lens (16x optical zoom), allowing you to adjust the viewing angle according to the distance and cover both near and far targets. Before installation, we recommend measuring the distance from the installation point to the target, then deciding on the mounting height and angle.
Is this Hong Kong official stock? How many years of warranty are included?
This is Hong Kong official stock and includes a local warranty certificate, with a 2-year warranty. Hong Kong parallel imports generally only come with the seller’s own warranty; repairs must be sent back to the country of origin, with the time and shipping costs borne by the customer.
Overseas parallel imports are a little cheaper. Are they worth buying?
Not recommended. Overseas versions may differ from Hong Kong versions in terms of voltage, plug type, App regional services, and warranty support. There may be no local support if problems arise. We only guarantee Hong Kong official stock; versions shipped from overseas warehouses (Australia, the UK, Germany, Singapore, Canada, the United States, Malaysia, France, and Dubai) are not covered by our warranty.
