The P840 is a pan-tilt PTZ camera. With 360° rotation, 5× optical zoom, and auto-tracking, the camera follows moving targets as they move, making it suitable for open areas such as parking spaces, gardens, and back alleys.

The official resolution is 8MP 4K, with a frame rate of 25fps and an f=2.7-13.5mm F1.6 lens.

The horizontal field of view is 105°-31°. Before installation, measure the distance from the installation point to the target. The actual coverage can differ greatly when the same camera is installed at a height of 2.5 meters versus 3.5 meters.

Night Vision and Full-Color Mode

During installation, avoid pointing the lens directly at a white wall or metal awning. Otherwise, reflected supplemental lighting may cause overexposure in the center of the image while making the surroundings harder to see. If this cannot be avoided, tilting the camera downward by 10 to 15 degrees usually provides a noticeable improvement.

Smart Detection and Mobile Notifications

Supported detection: Person and vehicle detection (supports auto-tracking). Detection is performed on the camera, and notifications are pushed only when the target category is identified. This filters out false alarms caused by conventional motion detection, such as rain, tree shadows, and changes in lighting.

Notifications can be enabled or disabled individually. If you want to receive person detection notifications but do not want cats or dogs waking you up at night, simply turn off animal detection notifications; recording will continue as usual.

When recording with a microSD card or NVR, you can tap the notification to view the relevant clip directly instead of manually dragging through the timeline to find it.

PoE Power and Network Connection

The P840 uses PoE power (IEEE 802.3af／at): a single network cable supplies power and transmits video simultaneously, so no separate power cable or outlet is needed at the camera location.

The power source can be a PoE-compatible Reolink NVR or a standalone PoE Switch.

The practical advantage of a wired connection is stable bandwidth: wireless cameras may experience frame drops and delays when multiple people are watching live video simultaneously or when there is heavy interference from nearby Wi-Fi networks, whereas PoE does not.

Storage, Playback, and Backup

Supports local storage via microSD, and can also be paired with a Reolink NVR for centralized recording. Neither option requires a monthly fee.

A microSD solution is suitable for mainly using a single camera and retaining footage for only a few days. An NVR solution is suitable for multiple cameras, retaining footage for several weeks, or reviewing footage from multiple angles at once.

We recommend using a surveillance-grade microSD card. Standard phone cards are prone to failure after several months of continuous writing, and failed cards usually provide no warning.

App, Two-Way Talk, and Remote Viewing

Audio: Two-way audio. In the Reolink App, press and hold the talk button to speak to people on-site. This is useful for receiving packages at the door or giving customers instructions in a shop.

Remote viewing is available through the Reolink App (iOS／Android). Multiple cameras can be added to the same account, with support for split-screen viewing and timeline playback.

You can also create sub-accounts with view-only access, without permission to change settings or delete recordings—helping prevent accidental deletion of clips.
