Product Overview
Reolink E1 is designed for home monitoring within the indoor pan-and-tilt camera lineup: featuring 4MP 2K, 355° horizontal and 50° vertical pan/tilt, its official smart detection includes not only people and pets, but alsoCrying Detection——a feature not available on other models in the same series.
The official resolution is 2560×1440 (4 megapixels) @15fps, with a 1/3" CMOS sensor, f=4.0mm fixed-focus lens, F2.0 aperture and IR-cut. The field of view is 84° horizontally and 45° vertically; infrared night vision reaches 12 meters (8 × 850nm LEDs, with automatic IR-cut switching).
Wireless connectivity supports IEEE 802.11 ax/b/g/n, limited to 2.4GHz, with WPA3 encryption support. Storage supports up to 512GB microSD. The camera weighs 158g, making it the lightest in the same series. Operating temperature is -10°C to 40°C (the upper limit is lower than the 55°C of other models, but this is no issue for indoor use).

Crying + People + Pets
Crying Detection: The Most Practical Difference of This Camera
The official smart detection features four options: motion detection, person detection, pet detection and crying detection. The first three are available on most models, while crying detection is relatively rare — it is designed to meet the practical needs of nurseries and rooms for elderly family members.
Crying detection works by identifying audio characteristics rather than simply detecting volume, so it will not trigger false alerts just because of TV sounds or a closing door. In actual use, it is recommended to set notifications to only include crying and person detection, preventing pets moving around from waking you up.
- Supports Crying Detection
- Supports Person, Pet and Motion Detection
- Recommended to enable notifications only for crying and person detection

E1 Indoor Installation Example (Official Image)
4MP Image Quality and 84° Field of View
2560×1440 @15fps, with a 1/3" CMOS sensor and F2.0 aperture. The image remains clear under typical indoor lighting. If the room is relatively dark, F2.0 lets in less light than F1.6, resulting in more image noise. This is the main difference compared with the E331.
The 84° horizontal and 45° vertical field of view is moderately narrow. The advantage is that subjects appear larger with less distortion; combined with the 355° pan/tilt, it can cover the entire room by turning, which is more practical than forcing everything into an ultra-wide-angle view.
- 2560×1440 4MP @15fps
- 1/3" CMOS|f=4.0mm F2.0
- Field of View 84°/45°
158g Body and Flexible Placement
Weighing 158g with a compact body, it is the lightest model in the same series. This allows highly flexible placement: it can be placed on a bookshelf, cabinet, TV stand, or even secured with a clamp, without drilling holes.
The trade-off for its light weight is stability: if placed where it may be bumped, the image can easily be knocked out of alignment. It is more stable when placed at a higher position or on a fixed base.
- 158g, the lightest in the same series
- Can be placed flat or wall-mounted; no drilling required
- Avoid placing it where it can be easily bumped
12m Infrared and Night-Time Image
Infrared night vision up to 12 meters (8 × 850nm LEDs, automatic IR-cut switching), sufficient for indoor rooms. Nighttime images are in black and white; the official specifications do not list a spotlight or full-color night vision.
To improve night vision, placement matters more than specifications: do not point it at a window (the glass may reflect infrared light into a washed-out white image), do not place it right against a white wall (infrared reflections may cause overexposure), and keep the area in front of the lens unobstructed.
- Infrared up to 12 meters (8 × 850nm LEDs)
- Black-and-white at night, no spotlight
- Avoid pointing at windows or placing it against walls
The trade-off of 2.4GHz-only Wi-Fi
Wireless connectivity uses 802.11 ax/b/g/n, supports only 2.4GHz, and supports WPA3 encryption. It offers good wall penetration, but 2.4GHz channels are congested in Hong Kong homes, so delays may occur during busy periods.
If your home has many 2.4GHz devices (smart lights, plugs, and doorbells), we recommend installing the camera close to the router; choose the E331 if you need dual-band Wi-Fi.
- Supports 2.4GHz only
- Supports WPA3
- Recommended to install near the router
Storage and temperature limits
Supports up to a 512GB microSD card and event-triggered recording. Indoor scenes generally generate few triggered events, so a 512GB card can store footage for a long time; a high-endurance surveillance-grade card is recommended.
The official operating temperature is -10°C to 40°C, with a lower upper limit than other models in the same series (55°C). This is fully sufficient for indoor environments, but do not install it inside an unventilated cabinet or in a sunny spot by a window.
- microSD up to 512GB
- Operating temperature -10°C to 40°C
- Avoid enclosed or sun-exposed locations

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the biggest difference between E1 and E331?
Cry detection and sensor. E1 supports cry detection, weighs 158g, but only supports 2.4GHz and F2.0; E331 does not support cry detection, but has a 1/2.7" sensor, F1.6, and dual-band Wi-Fi. Choose E1 for baby care, or E331 for better image quality.
What is the biggest difference between E1 and E321?
E1 features 4MP, a 1/3" sensor, 50° vertical pan-and-tilt, cry detection, and weighs 158g; E321 features 3MP, 90° vertical pan-and-tilt, and weighs 167g. Choose E1 if you need cry detection and higher resolution.
Is cry detection accurate?
The official system identifies crying based on audio characteristics rather than volume alone, so sounds from the TV or a closing door generally will not trigger false alarms. Actual performance may be affected by distance and ambient noise. We recommend installing it 2–4 meters from the baby’s crib.
Is a vertical range of only 50° enough?
The 50° range is measured downward from the horizontal position, which is sufficient for viewing the room floor and the area beside the crib; however, it cannot look directly downward like a 90° model. If you need to view the floor along a wall, adjust the base angle.
Why is the maximum temperature limit only 40°C?
This is the official specification and reflects its indoor-use design. It is sufficient for normal indoor environments, but do not place it in an enclosed cabinet or where it will be exposed to direct sunlight by a window.
Will 2.4GHz-only support be an issue?
It is suitable for general indoor use, but 2.4GHz networks can be congested in Hong Kong, so we recommend installing it near the router. For dual-band support, choose E331.
Can it be installed in a bathroom?
Not recommended. The official specifications do not state a waterproof rating.
What is the maximum microSD card capacity supported?
The official specifications state a maximum of 512GB. We recommend using a surveillance-grade card.
Does it support Alexa/Google?
The official specifications list Smart Home Compatibility: Alexa, Google Assistant, meaning that both are supported.
Is one unit enough to monitor a baby’s room?
Yes. Place it 2–3 meters from the crib, facing the crib. The 355° pan range also allows you to monitor the doorway. We recommend disabling auto-tracking to prevent the view from constantly moving.
Want to add another unit for a nursery or senior’s room?
Tell us the room size and placement constraints, such as whether there is a power outlet and whether drilling is possible, and we can help you decide whether to choose E1 or the dual-band E331.
